I have read the threads about using the autos in tj's out of the 98-01 cherokee's wondering if its possible to do the swap with all the parts from a 4.0l 4 sp auto out of a 87?

Any info would be great I have a complete running 87 that would be perfect for the swap?

It's 21 spline - so it won't work with your t-case.

I understand that. I can always take the 21 spline input from the other transfer can't I? Was wondering if this would work with the My tj being obd2 and the cherokee is obviously not?

The input gear from an 87 transfer case is not compatible with a 97. You would need to source the 21 input shaft from a transfer case from a 95+.

Or you can try and find a transmission from the appropriate years and call it done. That way you don't have to worry about getting a non-obd2 to work with your obd2.

I would continue the search for the correct transmission but that's me.

You want a 91 or newer. The 90 and older have different wiring connectors and TCU which requires an inverted TPS signal. Only Renix TB's have a TPS with a dual output to work with those TCU's

I was under the impression that 97's were 23 spline.

The input gear behind the 4 cylinder 5 speeds are 21 spline regardless of year.
