ran into a slight problem with a build im doin. my fault, i didnt gather ALL the important info prior to this and now im tryin to see what my options are.

basically i need to eliminate the c bushings which i recently learned you cant just grind em off :( from what i gather that cast part on the axle is a weak point, and actually no tube in the center. original plan was to grind them off....

so can i get the axle "fixed" so its just straight tubes? ive read about re-tubing for other purposes like moving diff from left to right, and narrowing, but im lookin to keep diff on same side and keep it the same width. basically lots of work to accomplish very little.

so can that be done? where can i take it to get this done? has anyone actually ran into a problem ie. axle breaking at that spot?

unfortunately its way too late on this build to go to something different, im already balls deep into it in terms of time and $$ building up this axle, leaf springs are already hung in place setup for this axle. pretty much just need to weld on spring perches and its done... or so i thought :shaking:

Any larger automotive machine shop should be equipped to re-tube your housing. There are probably vendors here that sell the tube, and flanges. Don't know about now, but last I checked(it's been a few years) you could send your rear to Currie and they would do anything you wanted done to it. To do it yourself, all you have to have is a mandrel to keep everything straight. I made one years ago, to narrow a 9", but I had access to a large lathe, and only welded on new flanges.

If you have early Bronco axles then you can take the Cs off and have a tube left. I had a set off a 74 that I did. It's the 78-79 ones that you can't grind off.

I think Mr N has some pics of both styles here http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/web_rs44.html

i have no intention to do any re-tubing myself, have neither the equipment or experience doing that.

but since this axle is from a 77 apparantly i can still grind it off???? i guess i missed that detail (again, ha) ill go back over mr. n's article. its so great having resources like that available
