: Wow - Just Wow - PUSU
Big Rich 12-07-2009, 02:06 PM With this being a KOH qualifer I can't believe more teams have not committed to competing in this weeks PUSU in Tucson.....
right now we have about a dozen teams committed - rumor of more teams but they have not committed yet :shaking:
5 spots open in KOH from this event.... it's got to be easier on your car and team than the LCQ
Weather is to be in the high 60's to mid 70's.... better than sitting in the single digits like here in Idaho :laughing:
Lot's of advertizing to the local market
Open course and maybe something we've never tried before with course design
Well have fun sitting at home all you racers :grinpimp:

12 Total or 12 teams competing for a KOH spot?
Any more details on the 'other' course design? Spectators are curious.:D
bigsilly 12-07-2009, 02:22 PM Geography kicks my butt. Financially I can only go West for one qualifier event and the car is torn apart now for KOH changes and prep. Just bad timing for our team. The odds are very good for those that can make it. With all of the prep and builds going on I can see why the turnout is low. See everyone on the lakebed for the LCQ!
Jeff Knoll 12-07-2009, 02:31 PM I hope one of them is Nicole Johnson she lobbied hard for the Rock crawling Qualifier.
5 spots for KOH on the line, looks like good odds.

Yes on Nicole, Daren Runyon, Todd McCullen, Curtis Warner, Robert McKinney (I think) and Jason Blanton.... the others are not tryiong for a KOH spot that I know of.....
Well we are going to have a great time anyway.....:laughing::grinpimp:
OnTheSpot 12-07-2009, 05:15 PM I'll be there spectating!!!! I can't wait!!!
Sorry to hear of the low turnout Rich,I am flying down to pit and spectate if thats any help :)
...I cannot believe there is a 5 in 6 chance as it stands now!!...If only I could get my rig back together in time.

Well we just had another sign up... but the odds are still really good for those wanting a better chance...
We can put on a great show with a small number of vehicles, that's the great part of rock crawling and the way we stage it...
If you are building a new car, but still have your old KOH rig, call Dave or Jeff and ask if you can run the old rig, it might just be alright :D as long as it is a car built for KOH style racing...
Danger Ranger 12-07-2009, 09:18 PM Adding two cylinders to my motor is taking too long and my mini van would be laugh out loud funny on a werock course :lmao: :nuke:
That's my excuses :flipoff2:
Tech Tim 12-07-2009, 10:08 PM Robert McKinney (I think)
Talked with Rob the other day, he is planning on showing, his new motor is in and it is a screamer!
SlowmoSU 12-07-2009, 10:31 PM 4600 miles R/T is a hard pill to swallow 2 weeks before Christmas :flipoff2:
jbcruiser 12-08-2009, 01:27 AM McKenney will be there....but he already has a spot for KOH! Finished 6th last year. He was the qualifying driver, not Nick

I did not realise that, thanks for the info....

It doesn't have to be a car built for KOH, it just has to be similar chassis construction.
For example, don't show up at PUSU in a moon buggy and then expect to race an IFS car at KOH.

I was told I had to drive the car that was going to used in KOH?? I was told I could not drive my PRO-MOD?

I believe it is top 5 of ones going for KOH, so if 5 moon buggies are top 5 and KOH cars are 6-10, KOH cars still qualify
slipscomb 12-08-2009, 01:15 PM I wish I was there however, I'm still getting caught up here at the shop from galavanting out to SEMA and Baja!:grinpimp: Definitely plan to see you in 2010 Rich!

From the original PUSU thread....
Dec. 12-13, 2009
Tucson's Pima Motorsports Park
Top five from this event (not already qualified) will be given spots in the 2010 King of The Hammers race.
Entry forms will be available shortly on line at www.werocklive.com
Look for 4 courses each day that are longer (but still techincal) than normal, although it will still be a crawling event
Hammer King Productions requires that all those trying to qualify through PUSU drive the racer that THEY will drive in the KOH event. This is directly from DAVE....
JeepRecoveryTeam 12-08-2009, 02:06 PM From the original PUSU thread....
I'll get in front of this right now.
There has been a significant amount of confusion around what cars need to be driven to eligible for the qualifying spots.
The intention from the beginning was not to require you to have your KOH '10 car done by now. It was to prohibit drivers from cherry picking a top spot by showing up in a car that they would not/could not race in KOH.
What has been allowed is to run a car of similar construction as you would at KOH. If you plan to run a rear engined IFS car at KOH, then you need to qualify in a car like that. If you plan on running a two seat front engine solid axle car, qualify in a car like that.
I am sorry if this change has hindered your team, that was never my intention. I take full responsiblity. This whole concept has been my baby, so if you need to yell at someone, you have my number.
This concept has been difficult to grow into. I apologize again for any miscommunication.
This changes nothing for the Grand Slam. The Grand Slam is one chassis, one driver. Zero exceptions.
Dave
BadAZYj 12-08-2009, 02:13 PM So Dave, Are you running your car at PUSU? Just curious as IIRC you were talking about it when you came out here a while back...
JeepRecoveryTeam 12-08-2009, 02:27 PM If the brown van that delivers cool and expensive pieces of metal shows up, we'll be there.
RedBullJeep 12-08-2009, 02:47 PM I believe it is top 5 of ones going for KOH, so if 5 moon buggies are top 5 and KOH cars are 6-10, KOH cars still qualify
I dunno, Dave and Jeff will have to clarify this but it was:
Top five from this event (not already qualified) will be given spots in the 2010 King of The Hammers race.
The wording: "Top 5 from this event"
Does not state: "Top 5 saying they are competing for KOH spots"
Those two are different things and again, Dave and Jeff should clarify this instead of making an assumption.

So if I drive a car like Shannons Pro-mod car, basically a frt. engine moon buggy thats legal to qualify in.
And is it top 5 period to qualify or top 5 of KOH teams trying to qualify?

And that scenario is the exact reason why this whole thing is broken.
We didn't have any restrictions and then people started talking about 'borrowing' ringer cars just to qualify.
I've stated where it's at. You must race a car that is structually similar to the one you will race at KOH.
As far as WHO qualifys. When you register with WeRock onsite, you will be asked if you are attempting to qualify. It's a one time yes/no answer.
The top 5 finishers who have not already secured spots and are attempting to qualify will receive invites.
For the life of me, I don't understand why anyone would show up at PUSU and not put their name in the hat for qualifying. Two year ago, a moon buggy won this race. And the same car came in second last year.
desertfabmotorsports 12-08-2009, 04:19 PM I am driving my KOH car!!
I am trying not to be an idiot here, so to qualify it is Top 5 period.. So if the top 5 have no intensions of doing KOH, there will be 5 extra openings at the LCQ?

We're taking 5 from PUSU
If they finish 6-10, so be it.
Top 5 guys who check the box that they are there to qualify.

Not sure if that buggy qualifys as a Crawling moon buggy

If you had your buggy and that buggy sitting side by side to choose from to compete in a rockcrawl, which one would YOU choose? :dustin:

tnyota 12-09-2009, 11:03 AM As of right know they are only having a west coast pusu this year and next unless they add a date on the schedule for next year which last i heard they are looking into. Have they released the nationals location for next year yet? We are having to put in for vacation days and trying to see if its going to work or not. Thanks for any help. Hope its a great turn out this weekend.
