I don't get why the wheel manufacturers aren't making steel 16.5 inch rims with a safety bead. Seems like there's a market for the offroad crowd. Maybe Eaton or Stockton wheels could do a run. Maybe I'm missing something....is there something different about 16.5 inch tires so that they won't work with a safety bead?
Because most of the 16.5 wheels are used on HD trucks and the high ply tires are a mofo as it is to pop onto the wheels?

There are 16.5 rims with safety beads, I have 4 chevrolet camper special wheels that are over 8" wide with inner and outer beads, and they only cost $7.50 per wheel at the wreckin yard.

But yes - the bead *is* different, and even with the safety bead the angle ont he bead surface does make it more prone to un-seat at low psi.

Always wonderd why a lot of stock and aftermarket 16.5 don;t have it too.
Perhaps because the tires normally run on these rims are run at such high pressure, it isn;t a factor (normally) and so bother with the time and cost during fabrication???

How many are popping inner bead's on a bead-locked 16.5?
I've got a set of TR's that I have yet to use...But will be soon. I've taken the tact that IF popping the inner bead becomes a problem, I'll weld in my own inner "safety" bead.
