why not swap in something useful like a 60 or 14 bolt, not a toyota. at least put in a Dana 44.

at least put in a Dana 44.

you thinka dana 44 is as strong as a Toyota 8"?

do a SEARCH, this has been covered before and there are toyota axles out there that will fit your application.

How about you do a little research before you start shooting your mouth? A toyota rear is just as strong, if not stronger than a 44 rear.

I'm running the IFS model rear in my TJ, 58" Wide(2.5" BS on wheels). I'm using a high pinion 3rd fron a 96 cruiser front end with a electronic locker. The housing needs some minimal machine work for this, basically clearancing for the shift fork and a couple holes.

Check on a newer full size toy axle. The older pickups will be too narrow. I tried and gave up.

FYI the toy axle shafts are 1.31" same as the d44. the angle on the splins are slightly differant but you'd never be able to tell by looking.

taco axle = 8.4 60" wide
v6 2wd taco = 60" wide and 5 on 4.5

Taco trd = 8" 60" wide and elocker

I looked at 8 different 2WD Taco's yesterday after work. Every single one of them was a 6 lug.

The pre-runners are 6 lug. Guess lots of people totaled them without that front wheel drive for safety offroad :(

Even the little ones were 6 lug. Didn't say prerunner on them.

where were you looking?I just noticed you're in L.A. how much were the axles going for? Did they have 4runner axles(disk brakes)?

maybe it was an option? Toyotas have a lot of options:

It took us 9 hour to stick the front in and alittle over 15 for the rear.
not to mention changing out the mounts.
I guess it also depends on what kind of suspension you want in after your done. the biggest pain in t he ass besides the custom drivshaft was the break lines.

But I'm happy with my new strenght.

coiledcj7,
there are a lot of great things about toy axles, strong, easy to set up, but why would you put birfields in the front?

Excellent question. Birfs still make me wonder why they exist when my buddy has to change one.

Is a 2002 v6 rear a good axle to swap in a Jeep? I found a deal on one.

BrettM

okay a little more detail, it's not a 2002, it's a 2000 SR5 4runner, v6, 4 link rear. I would take the bracketry off and throw on some leaf spring perches. What are the other concerns?

Bolt pattern is the only other thing to worry about.

hybrid

If you can use front passenger side drop, a d44 from a older full size cherokees have the same 6 bolt pattern (center is a little larger on the toyota though) and cheep to get.
Then sell off the old 5x4.5 rims for beer money.

Or just get the newer Waggy front D44 with the same pattern and keep the drivers side drop??? :p

FNG,
aren't the newer waggies 5x4.5 and a D30?

Kensoffroad

FNG is talking about full size waggys, the only trouble with the newer ones that pass. drop is they are 64-65 inches wide. Before anyone trys to argue go F yourself I have one out in the shop.:flipoff2:

Someone posted this link on a similar thread over at NAXJA.org

This is definetly helpful for your Toy axle shopping

GPN, not intending to turn this into a testosterone match... never saw any value in that.

The comment was made in order to have 6 bolt toyota rear end like this post originated with, the older Full size cherokees are also 6 bolt and Yes passenger side drop Dana 44. No one is arguing that.
I did ask if they ever made a D44 front on the cherokees using 5x4.5 and Driver side drop, and was called and told they did for 6months by a friend who has one. Not for me because I like easy to find spares - but it's an option.

Unless someone has one and tells me otherwise, I belive all the newer driver side drop cherokees are Dana 30's and 5x4.5 --- is there others?

I retubed a 76 cherokee D44 making it Drivers side drop but it's not for the average 4wheeler project. Mainly did it because someone said it couldn't be done. 63" and Not fun at all.

I've got toy axles under my Cj-5, locked up, 36" Swampers. I haven't had any problems with them and I am kind of rough on my Jeep. The hardest part for me was connecting the rear brake lines (which still aren't hooked up, I can't find the right adpater anywhere). I like the Toy axles, but I will go to 1 ton axles someday.

when people say "waggy" on this board its NEVER the XJ cherokee based one you're mentioning. Its the old school full size jeep everyone is talking about.

that is easy. Get all toy hard line for the axle.. do that.. then get a toy soft line off a t100 it is longer. then get a small peice of toy hard line and a small peice of jeep hard line. Cut it take one end off the jeep and one off the toy and flare them onto a 4" peice of hardline. Then get a toy nut and attach it all. mine works great. cost me like $50, the soft line was like $35 of that.
