: help find right rear leaf springs
jdv1977 12-08-2009, 11:16 AM I posted this in the General 4x4 forum but no one answered me. Sorry if it's a stupid question but im looking to replace my rear leaf springs and i don't know what to get. I own a 1977.5 F-250 4x4. The truck has a 4" lift with brand new leaf springs in the front but the rear springs are the original. The truck sits nice but has a very slight sag in the rear. What i need to know is will stock replacement leaf springs for the rear give me that 1 inch i need to level the truck off or do i need to get rear springs that have a more positive arch to it?
Antiqueford 12-08-2009, 12:38 PM Off road design makes "zero rates", basically one inch blocks that bolt to the spring pack. If you just want it to be level those will work.
Otherwise common sense says get 4" lift springs for the rear to match the front.

PwrWagons4ever 12-08-2009, 01:34 PM Chances are, once your new front springs settle, you will be level. The other option, that would be better than adding blocks, would be get a set of helper springs.
jdv1977 12-09-2009, 04:29 PM What about getting rid of the 2" block on top of my stock block? Just running leaf springs off the stock block? 4" springs should work to make the truck level in that application right?
just4cuz 12-09-2009, 10:35 PM Yes, running double blocks is dangerous. 4" springs and your stock 2" block may level it out. Add a leafs sometimes can stiffen the spring rate to achieve the lift and change the ride for the worse.
If you have a good spring shop in town have the re arch the springs and have them add 2" of arch to the springs.
I have a place here that rebuilds and re-arches them for less than 100 dollars.
you should have the 2-1/4" wide springs, i just replaced the springs in my '88 f350 w/ the new springs that a prior owner had put if a 74 f250 I bought for parts...same as the ones in my 77 f250 , from what I was told the narrower springs are in the cab/chassis models in the later years and our highboys, I also cott back a coulpe of leafs on another truck to get the 2" leveling to the back, got a longer center bolt and u-bolts, this way I had no extra blocks and no hassles at inspection
BACRAKR 12-10-2009, 12:42 PM A 77.5 should have a 3" wide rear spring.
jdv1977 12-10-2009, 04:13 PM Thanks correct I have the 3" wide springs. My 77 was manufactured in 5/77. Here are some pics of what I have. The 2" inch block on top of the stock block is what I'm looking to get rid of.

BPWBeatie 12-11-2009, 09:30 AM Since we're on the topic of leaf springs, anyone know what vehicle a set of leafs that measure 57" eye to eye with an offset center pin and inverted shackle setup would come out of? I was thinking Explorer, but can't find any info to verify this.

Your springs look pretty flat, a re-arch to 2" over stock would fix you up.

brewchief 12-14-2009, 05:32 PM How about doing a shackle flip in the rear? I bet you would be able to lose one of the blocks and end up with it sitting how you want for very little cash.
jdv1977 12-15-2009, 06:27 PM How much lift would a shackle flip give?
