Last night I went to move my Heap in the garage and when I went to turn it over there was nothing, no click, just nothing. The headlights would come on but VERY faintly.

When I lifted the hood the battery was making a hissing sound and you could see on the hood where it appeared to be spraying very little on the under side of the hood directly above the battery. I jiggled the connections to make sure everything was tight and it was.

So I pulled it thinking it was bad. I take it to a parts store and they test it out at 12.06 V and say it's good. So I take it next door to have it tested again and in the first machine it just gives you a good , marginal, bad rating again it testes good. Then the parts monkey hooked it to another machine where it is reading 14V and you can hear an intermediate peeping from the machine. The parts guy tells me that that the battery should not be @14V and that the beeping is a the battery loosing connection with the machine, he tests it a new battery to make sure it's not the machine.

So is what the parts guy saying right? I did buy a new battery but I'm working and have not put it in yet.

Did any of these parts stores do a load test or did they just check the voltage?

Voltage means diddly squat if the battery doesn't have the amperage required by the starter to turn it over.
