 Is this a homebrew type of deal, or did Dodge actually make this? Owner claims OEM, but damn......that is very odd.

They did put a Diesel in some of the 77/78 Dodge trucks, but, it was a Mitsubishi (if I remember correctly) and only put out 163 ft lbs torque..It did get decent mileage but his figures are off from my expirence for the gas engines.. I had a 77 with the 360 and a manual tranny and I got 15 to 16mpg..accelleration with that diesel was something akin to the Volkswagon rabbit Diesel(very slow) The heavy duty T-case he refers to is the NP203 same as all other 75 to 79 dodges recieved.. If the engine actually has a turbo it is something someone added.. THIS IS NOT the same engine used in the class C/A vans(delivery vans) as he states.. The delivery vans recieved a 354 perkins diesel which was much stronger than the mitsu engine..

Hey, thanks for the lowdown. It's kinda funny...I did a search on Google for diesel power wagon and it came up with absolutely nothing regarding those Mitsu diesels. They must not have made too many of those.

You are correct they did not make very many with that engine because it was so under powered.. I tried to get some tow rating info and stuff but haven't been able to find anything so far..Here is a little more info on the engine..

Manufacturer: Mitsubishi
Displacement: 4.0 ltr(243 Ci)
Horsepower:100@3700
Torque:163@2200

this engine was only used in 78 and 79 (not 77 I was working from memory when I typed that in after working the night shift this morning)

here are specs on the 225 slant 6 gas engine for compareson..

Displacement:225 ci (3.7 ltr)
Horsepower:140@3900 RPM(1bbl) 150@3700RPM(2bbl)
Torque: 215@1600(1bbl) 225@1800(2bbl)

here are some specs on the perkins he was comparing it to

Displacement:354 ci naturely apirated(no turbo or supercharger)
Horsepower:120@2800 ( still not much but 900 RPM lower)
Torque:260@1450 (almost 100 more and at 750 Rpm lower)

I hope somebody doesn't get mislead by that sellers spiel and buy it for a tow rig..
