: help in choosing suspension kit for my Jeep Storm (a longer YJ)
Hi everybody ,
I own a Jeep Storm , it is a longer version of the YJ, which is manufactured in Israel .
Wheelbase : 104"
Total length : 4.15 m
Net weight : about 1600 kg
Front axle : Dana 30
Rear axle : Dana 44
wheels&tires : 33/12.5/15 on 15/9 wheels
I want to replace my suspension , but , there is no bolt on kit for my jeep .
I am looking for about 4" lift , soft ride , longer wheel travel leaf springs that wont be too expensive .
I will use the jeep mostly for rocks and fast driving in the fields .
What springs and shocks should I buy?
Thanks , Edy .
MNBen 09-30-2002, 08:40 AM What is the width of your current springs, and what is the distance between the shackle end and the hanger end. How much does your Jeep weigh, total, front, and rear. Give us that info and we may be able to help you. As it is we have no idea what springs will or will not fit, or what shocks to recommend.
Ben
aaronlosey 09-30-2002, 09:43 AM i would guess that your suspension would be exactly the same as a normal yj since it would cost jeep too much to manufacture different suspesions for the same model. an easy way to check this is to measure your springs. if they are the same length from front to rear, it is a normal yj suspension. they should be about 45 inches from spring eye to spring eye. this would mean you could probably just order a lift kit for a normal yj.
now, forget all that and put those springs on top of the axles, moving the spring pads to the top. search here in the jeep forum for soa.
Keith Strong 09-30-2002, 11:52 AM I wanna see pics of that thing ;) Sounds cool.
How much work do you wanna put into it? I love my waggy front springs and F150 rears.
Taso Stambolis 09-30-2002, 12:57 PM any pictures?
Jeepmangled87 09-30-2002, 02:26 PM Ive seen one of those things, they are cool, kinda look like a YJ scrambler.
tuckster 09-30-2002, 02:59 PM Yeah, they were all over the place in venezuela, I should have brought one home. I'm pretty sure they're just like a YJ Scrambler, I believe they were all hard tops.
the original springs are YJ springs , but with higher spring rate .
Ican't do SOA since it is illegal in Israel ...
there are several options to get this car : hard(metal) / soft top and long / short (both have 104" wheelbase) .
the problem is that some of the spring sag after a few months , most of the people use ProComp but I don't like the results .

What about the Skyjacker 4"?
thanks , Edy .
Bigred84cj8 10-01-2002, 08:37 AM If you can get Rubicon Express, that's what I reccomend. Ride well, flex well, and almost no sagging. They are a little more $$ though.
Keith Strong 10-01-2002, 12:00 PM In that case (illegal SOA) I would go RE 4.5 extreme duty :) I want one of those!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto (and ditto).
tuckster 10-01-2002, 01:24 PM those have funky grills and fenders, the ones that I saw had YJ grills... maybe I need to head back down south and pick me up a long YJ
B.A.R.K 10-01-2002, 03:41 PM those YJ's(if you call them that) look sick, the front end looks like a hybrid between a Sammy, Rover D-90, & YJ....... i wonder why they never had those things in the states, and ditto also
redruM 10-02-2002, 07:57 AM try and flat fender that !!!!!!!!!
loose the headlights and the turn signals hummmmmm that is strange
RE 4.5" gets my vote
tuckster 10-02-2002, 11:43 AM I would post piccs, but I am a cheap student and I don't have a red star. But here's a link to some of the long YJ's that I was talking about...

It so cool, wierd, ugly, bad ass all at the same time I didn't know what to say :D
tuckster 10-02-2002, 12:33 PM I think it's the funky hard top that makes them look so weird, but I like the concept...
If I remember correctly they had jumpseats in the rear for 6 people, but I'm not positive... I wonder what drivetrains they have. 4.0's? Now I'm wondering how hard it would be to transport one of those things up to the US of A. Hmmm..... I'd better get back to work and stop thinking about silly Jeeps.
the new models of the storm has a YJ grill .
the new Storm will have 111" wheelbase , Dana 44 front&rear , coil springs , and a TJ grill .
The drivetrain is like the YJ's .
what is your opinion on the Skyjacker 4"?
where can I buy RE 4.5" in a good price?
thanks , Edy .
btw , I am going to replace the hood , fenders and the grill by CJ's front .
jeepik 10-02-2002, 02:32 PM drove the Diesel for about a month when i was in Jerusalem this summer..had a blast
i would say procomps would work well becuase those things(storms) are much heavier then the YJ, and the Procomp springs should work out nicely( since they are so stiff for the light YJ's)
i have to say the interior is really weird other then that still the same YJ, just longer
