I've got about a 12x36 Atlas/Clausing 4800 series lathe...old as hell. There's a little idler gear for the lead screw that's missing a tooth...wondering where I might find a used one. Clausing has one for $250...but that's a bit steep.

Anyone have one of these lathes laying around for parts?

In terms of depth of tech knowlege, yeah. But that's where the similarity ends.

Clausing spare parts prices are rediculous. Joint practicalmachinist.com and send PM to finegrain. He makes gears for much cheaper than you can buy them.

You could always repair your gear. Remove what is left of the broken tooth. drill/ ream and press in a couple dowel pins in place of the old tooth. If you want (not necessary) you can then add some brazing rod around the pins to build up the area. Then you can file the brazing and dowel pins to match the other teeth.

That is a damn good idea. I'll do that tonight. I was trying to figure out a way to weld it without completely destroying it, but I like the dowel pin thing better.

Worked awesome...used some 16 penny nails for dowels and a 0.125" drill. Fixed 7 teeth.
