: No inner fender with mud?

I live in Northwest Florida. As most of you know, here in Florida we have a fair share of mud. I'm wanting to do some tube fenders up front that will run into the hood for a large opening. The only problem is I don't see an easy way to make some inner fenders.
I don't play in a whole lot of mud, but every now and again I'll hit a sticky hole. Do you think it would be safe to run no inner fenders in thick soupy mud? I'm just curious if parts will wear down faster or be destroyed by it.

Thanks,

-Joe

if you search around you can find people who have cut out their stock fenders to keep the inner fender with tube fenders. pretty much cut it off even with the hood.

I'm wanting to go higher with the tubes, too high for the stock inner fender. Basically I want to hi-line it.

I modified my stock inners when i chopped my hood. It's in my build thread.

I cut out my fender and just worked them into my tube fenders. You can do the same, and then attach some heavy rubber or sheet metal to ad to the length. Otherwise, your life is going to suck.

Some people use floor mats as fenders. Seems to work pretty good.

I would try to fab up some sheetmetal inners. I'm a FL boy too and based on what my engine compatment looks like after wheeling I wouldn't want to try it with no fender wells.

We use the plastic mudflaps from the Semi-trucks. They are easily cut, small bends by hand, larger bends with a heat gun and are strong enough to hold shape when mud, dirt, rocks etc. are thrown at them by a spinning tire.

Here's an example in a FJ40 we did tube fenders on a while back. We welded in some small tabs and bolted the plastic liners in place. To get the right shape, we made a template from cardboard so we could cut and tape until it fit good, then transferred them to the plastic sheets.
