I called several sources at the DMV, and finally got a hold of a strictly CDL person...
If you're towing a trailer that grosses over 10,000lbs, you MUST have a Class A license. That's CDL. No if's, and's, or but's about it.
All the double axle trailers with more than 5k axles, this means you.
TN is *NOT* the same As long as your combination weight is not over 26,001, you're OK with a normal license.
Any questions, you can call 919-861-3319 for the NC CDL, and 615-687-2326 for TN.
Just food for thought for those that wanna stay legal.
Apparently, they don't care low LONG the combo is, just as long as it's not heavy.

I already have a class A CDL, and for those who do have a CDL there are some new laws that take effect on 9-30-02 . I don't have a copy of them now there at work but I will try and bring the paper home tomorrow and post. Most of it is tougher penalties (sp) for violations.

oh great more bull shit laws :mad3: I can do my job safer with out all those damn laws. I think before you can make a law you should have to expierience what you're trying to change

you still have federal rules and every other state rule to follow when you drive through them. :p
Here in IA I'm not required to have mudflaps on my truck but if i drive up to WI to see my dad I'd have to put some on

FedDot regulates a 74' max for a non-CDL rig.

Why? You only have to meet the vech requirments of the base plate state. In your case Ia. Ark. says a motorcycle must have a crashbar Kali doesn't. I didn't have to put a crashbar on my bike when riding it in Ark as I had Kali plates.

Emissions not included, vehicle equipment must be legal in the state you're in. I got hassled for window tint in NY in my Florida-plated car. The law said registered OR operated in the state...
Disclaimer: That was my own experience, YMMV.
Crashbar? So how do they sell sportbikes in Ark? None I've ever seen have crashbars on them.
