Let me begin by saying yes I'm a newbie, and second that I did do a search for anything on frames. I have come across two SII's, one is a 109 that is complete with a bad frame, and the other is a 88. The 88 has a good frame and body, but no eng/trans. I would like to restore the 88, but turn the 109 into my offroad rig that will be heavily modified. So I guess the question is, where can I get a new frame, that I don't have to import from the UK. I would be using leaf springs on the 109, so I'm not looking for the coil conversion frames. TIA....Jon

Jon,

I Have a '57 S1 109 Pick-up frame.

It's PERFECT. Chemically stripped, stored in warehouse near Washougal, Washington (30 minutes from Portland).

I'll be up there in about 2-3 weeks to pick up the rest of the stuff I have stored there.

It was going to be part of a project I had to abandon. :(

I don't have any pics of it, sorry.

Maybe we should talk. It would be an awesome basis for a trail rig.

Mike I think we should talk..tried to PM you, but your mailbox was full. 9V, thanks for the offer, but since we have a country between us, it might be a major PITA to get it here, I will keep in it mind though. Mike, since the 57 is a series one according to my research, will the series two body bolt right to it? Yes, there is a lot for me to learn, so have patience everyone! Jon

That's weird. My PM inbox states that I only have 1 message and others have tried to PM me too. OH well.

The S1 bulkhead outriggers are in a slightly different position than the SII, which may or may not be a problem depending on how much fabrication you are willing to do.

Also, the Pick-up frame for series ones is a bit different than the station wagon frames for SII. The SW SII frames kick up in the rear sooner than the S1 PU frame does. IOW, the rails for the SW kick up to support the rear seatbox and floor immidiately after the floorboard area.

The PU frame kicks up to be completely level immidiately behind the cab bulkhead. The PU rails are nearly 5 feet long of straight boxed tubing. I wish I had a pic of the frame as this would help tremendously.

I could yak all day about the frame differences and probably tell you things that are wrong, but you really ought to be talking with Timm Cooper. He has a PU that is his daily driver. Ironically his serial # and the one on the frame I own are only 13 digits apart. So, he is very familiar with my frame, he's even seen it quite a bit.

Go ahead and call him. He might know of some frame soures I don't.

Also, you really ought to check out the Galvy'd Marsland frames. That (IMO) would be the easiest way to go. Perhaps the best way to go. Probably not the cheapest way to go, but maybe (considering the S1 frame would need to be modified for the SII stuff).

Blah Blha Blah Blah....(I fell like I'm just yakking).

Give Timm and Brad a call and see what you think.

Jon, Mike, I just came from Washougal, where Mike's frame is stored, because I needed to get some stuff as well as some of my tools. I'd be happy to burn up a roll of film for you Jon, so you can take a look at it without driving down from Seattle. FWIW, my 109 is a SW bolted onto a late 109 regular frame - with no problem. The forward perches for the tub are not quite right, but it works. Only matters if you have a SW. I can get back up to Wahougal this week and snap some pics and snail mail em to yah Jon. I need to go back up there soon anyway. Let me know.

Oh, and don't trust Mike. He's a liar and a cheat. And his mom dresses him in the morning.:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

it is a wagon, sorry for specifying that. This project is going to start out on somewhat of a tight budget ( as most do) and if the p/u frame will work with some mods done it's no big deal since I will be doing some mods on it from springs, and what not. So if the frame is good, and will work we need to hook up in private to talk prices (Mike). Thanks for all the info, and I will call Tim!

Sorry to spoil your fun ..........but all 109 series one frames are NOT suitable for station wagons .Snowman ,go look at your 88" frame and just imagine another couple of feet added at the very rear .As you'll see ,the frame rises directly underneath the drivers seatbox ,as do all 109 series 1 frames .All LWB series one station wagons were built on the 107 SW frame until 1958 ( there never was a 109 series 1 SW ) .The 107 SW frame is unique ,as the frame rails resemble the later series 2 LWB frame .9V has the animal that you need .
