foil bubble insulation is what most guys in the pop-tops use...

Uh, this is still pirate. A woman works great!

Seriously though, all my cold camping has been either in a hardside camper or backpack/horse/back of truck where you don't have any options.

I did just have a new ARB tent show up, like 20 minutes ago and I'm going to have to try it out soon so I might be looking for some ideas too. Foil/bubble wrap has worked good for keeping hot floorboards from cooking us in trail rigs, maybe good for tents too.

that stuff is to much of a PIA to pack and use multiple times. I was thinking of a wool blanket then a tyvec layer in some canvas cover I could snap in when needed.

A guy I used to hunt with just wrapped a tarp around his to help with keeping the wind out. with a catalytic heater you were unzipping your bag to keep from sweating when it ran out of fuel your woke up and had to zip it back up.

A friend of mine used these on his popup and swore they made a huge difference camping in upstate NY in the winter:
http://www.popupgizmos.com/bunkcoverpage.htm
(the website is really hard to navigate. I think he had the "standard" ones. If you scroll down, it talks about how they reduce heat-loss and condensation in the winter)

When he described them to me, I pictured them covering the sides of the canopies as well, not just the top like shown on that website. If those don't cover the sides, I wonder if they could custom-make some that do, or if a boat/upholstery shop could add sides on, or make from scratch, depending if you could find the same type material.
