This place is damn sweet for TX wheeling. Supposedly there is going to be a Calrocks event there next year. Did not get many pics. I did get some of two Jeeps that went rubber up on "The Wall". The Sammi crawled it btw. :D

This is the obstacle where the rolls happened. Pictures dont do it justice. There is a 2ft verticle down where my rear wheels are and the top is very steep.

Damn it! I missed it.

Hey Jim,

Whats with your front drivers side tire, it's always off the ground?

Did anyone get a look at your brake lines while you were pulling the tire??

Jim's in houston so it was a bit more of a drive, maybe 5 hours or so. It's only about 1.5-2 hours west of Austin :D

There is actually pleanty of great terrain for wheeling here in the hill country area and further west. The problem is access. The land in TX is like 99% privately owned. There are basically no national Parks and the state parks are very restrictive.

This is a private ranch that has opened its gates to wheeling for organized club runs. Hopefully it will become a trend.

Here is the www site if anyone is interested:

Shrock, I was supposed to have been there. Had to cancell at the last minute. Had priorities. It was either fix the house and make the wife happy or go fourwheelin. Like my daddy said if momma ain't happy ain't no one happy.
Did you see Lance down there? White 4 runner with a flat bed and 38's?

Sami, the only Yota I saw was a blue flatbed. It was Jeep central pretty much. There were three Samis though.

Dang near everything is yeep central these days. I've got to get to Katemcy ASAP. I've heard nothing but good about this place, both the terrain and the folks guiding.

Have you fellow Texans heard of 'The Wheeling Ranch' near Nacona? This is another one I'm hitting soon. It's like 1 to 1.5 hrs from Dallas.

better hurry. From the www site:

"Katemcy Rocks will close down for deer season October 13, 2002 to February 1, 2003"

Hey this is TX after all. :D

Already got the word on the shut-down due to hunting. I heard it's possible that next year that won't be a problem; they'd already leased to hunters this year before someone finally got the bright idea to open up for wheelin'

Its only 6 hours from me. Maybe i'll be able to check it out sometime next year.

i have been to both katemcy and the wheeling ranch. both are alot of fun. katemcy has more there as of now but the ranch has some fun climbs and some big rocks out there too.

baby hueys crack is a fun climb in katemcy and high5 hill isn't bad either :D . katemcy has something for everyone. it is as hard as you want to make it. i was hoping to make it back out there this weekend but we are looking for a house so it is a no go:(

They call me the bypass king !!

I was on good behavior as she (the Finance Dept) was with me.

W/ all the jeeps flopping over and getting all the attention and winch cables - I just couldn't get any tough love.

hey Shrock,

on the 1st page of this thread...
The white sammi has these (looks like white PVC) tubes behind the driver in the bed.

Are those storage tubes for driveline parts?

Azrckcrawler
10-03-2002, 08:22 AM
This place looks pretty cool. I browsed their website before. Sounds like you have to bring a group of people so they'll open it, or are there enough wheelers there so you could drop in with 1 or 2 rigs?

misatori
10-03-2002, 08:49 AM
That white sami is still wheeling stock axles and dshafts. Those are axles and shafts in those tubes.

Shrock
10-03-2002, 08:49 AM
Slider, that is JC's rig. Yeah he keeps spare axles in there....fot now. I think he has a line on some D44's. :D If anyone need some geared, locked and sprun over sammi axle w/ spares, PM him @ "misatori".

Chris, they prefer organized runs. They dont want to just open it to the general public and have a bunch of morons making a junkyard/trash dump out of the place. You can look on the calendar, see who is coming that week, call them and ask to tag along though. We should do a PBB Sami run there...maybe in the spring?

I have a trip planned for next spring, but maybe next fall? Have to see how things work out.
