Coal kicks off some nice heat, but its dirty and you need to buy coal. Depending on its availability where you live and its cost in your area... Heck yeah! Free stove is better than being cold.

Best heat going. Perfect for a shop, and you shouoldn't have any trouble finding a coal supplier in WV. Do it! :D

Depending on the size of the stove your shop will be warmer than your house. We had an 18x24 coal stove in the basement of our last house and it kept it at 72 degrees turned down all the way.

You still need wood to light it each time but once you get the coal going it's hard to put out.

You also need stainless pipe for the chimney. Regular pipe won't cut it as the coal make's sulfur gas as it burns. Add water/rain/condensation and it turn's to sulfuric acid which will eat away at regular flu pipe in short order.
