: Superduty question
SLICK RICK 09-30-2002, 09:10 PM Hey guys I am wanting to run a 38-42 tire on my Powerstroke crewcab F-250(now 350) and need some advise on what the best tire to run on the road would be. I am looking for the BEST wear and decent handling for 95% ON- Road use. I was looking at everything from TSL Boggers to the 38.5 SX radial .. I am looking for the "best bang for my buck" and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Rick
tipover 09-30-2002, 11:02 PM I would get a tire that is siped. The non-siped tires are a bear on wet or ice roads that we have up here. BTW how has the solid axle swap. Any hints or suggestions. I got a 97 PSD crewcab f250 also. I'm having allignment problems with a small lift. Need to get rid of the IFS!

I would probably go with like a 42"tsl.

SLICK RICK 10-06-2002, 12:44 AM Thanks for your replies guys but I am curious about the "wear" factor is one better than the other??? also
Tipover .. The solid axle swap was the best thing i have done. I only regret now that I did not do what I originally wanted to do and that is put in a set of Rockwell 2.5 ton axles. with a 4 wheel steering set up. I still may do that depending on if I land the job I am hunting for. I was planning on running 39in tires and I am tired of all the candy-ass "superduty" guys running around Dallas with big lifts and tires and not even know the first thing about thier truck or 4-wheeling... Side note: there are some guys around here with S/D's that know what their doing... anyway I may just say to hell with it and run 44's.. If I am going to spend $300 a tire why not...... I may be using my truck less so I can get away with it now I think... Any more advise on which tire and the wearability of them would be very helpful.. Thanks
Slick rick with a biggg............ "truck"

So you are tired of the candy ass trucks with big lifts, yet you are going to do the same thing, are going to drive your truck less, and are looking for a tire with good wear on the road?
What makes you different?
SLICK RICK 10-06-2002, 05:23 PM I am going to be driving my Ford less because I am beating it to death. I have more battle scars and pics of wheelin with it that I dont need to Keep doing it and ruin a GREAT truck(eventually) so like every Good Ford enthusiast would do I bought a Whoopti Chevy to beat the hell out of it and not give a rats butt. Plus I feel like the truck has earned a little pampering at this point in its life and that is the difference between plopping down $40g for a new superduty and then another $6+ at 4 Wheel parts to make it a "show" truck. I added every mod to my truck from The Banks Git Kit(chip,downpipe,a/f) to the Solid front axle conversion so I feel Like I have also earned some "show" time now... And I think it will be kick butt to pull the WHoopTI to the trails with an original "superduty" jacked up on 38+ tires still working.. The 35's just arnt cutting it anymore..
Thanks for ALL replies... Everyone stay kewl and Keep on Wheelin......
rockdawgfj40 10-07-2002, 06:53 PM if you can pay for a stupid duty and those size tires why worry about tire wear? just a thought:fj:
SLICK RICK 10-08-2002, 04:40 AM Geesh I am not "worried" about it just looking for advise before I plop down $1000 on a set of tires. just wanting to know what people like and reccomend for what I am doing. The "stupid" duty thing was cute did you think of that one all by yourself? I thought guys who drove FJ40's were bright why dont you trade yours in for a Jeep........

wes8517 10-10-2002, 05:17 AM y not run parnelli jones dirt grip? you can get a 38 with a load range d or e i believe, that will suit your superduty well. and they are siped and from what i have heard they wear decently too

SpaceGhost 10-17-2002, 01:04 PM I can't offer any advise on tires :emb4: but you are correct about a few guys down there gettin it with their Strokes. I just replaced my Superchip with a 4 position flip chip from Diesel Innovations and after hauling my Cruiser from Indy to Farmington and back (3500 miles) I hit the drag strip the following night.
This isn't a race truck, but have you ever seen the looks you get when your 7500+ lb, LB Crew Cab 4x4 leaves the box, makes boost and blisters the tires thru second gear, leaves the rice rockets in your soot to the tune of 9.99 @ 70.68 mph in the 1/8 mile? Priceless to say the least.
Going back next week and disconnect the wastegate and use the transfer case to get traction. Expecting some 9.40's, unless they run the 1/4!
Oh, thats what some Cruiser guys do with their tow rig when it's not in service!
38"s ....................good wear .............hahahahaha your funny. face it if you are running 38's on the street you will not be getting good wear or milage or handling. fyi goodyear will be coming out with a 39 mtr. you still wount get good wear but the handling will be ok
SCOTTS_4X 10-19-2002, 01:14 PM hey do you guys know whare I can get some rockwells? I am thinking that since I am planning on building it to the hilt, I might as well go all the way. I'm thinking rockwells, 44's, a bigblock with all the power stuff, a t-case or 3 for gearing choices, and then I'm gonna strictly run it for street duty and get a beater for the trails. I'm tired of seeing all these guys running around in big ass trucks that see nothing but pavement, buncha sissies! once they see MY truck running on rockwells and armoralled swampers, they'll think I know it all about wheelin!
JESUS CHRIST! what is this world coming to?

pcorssmit 10-19-2002, 01:58 PM First off, I agree with the michelin suggestion above. Or, run 19.5s or 22.5s with Super Singles. The big disadvange to all these tires is the weight.
Secondly, you're an idiot. :flipoff2:
