Huh?

From what I can tell you are trying to setup gears on a rear 44, or are you trying to install a Loc-Rite? If the rear 44 is from a Scout II, it will in most cases have a Trac-No-Loc, a Loc-Rite will not work with a Trac-No-Loc carrier. There is a 'drop' in locker for the Trac-No-Loc carrier, but it is $450, so you might as well buy a Detroit, or weld it up. At risk of sounding like the BB, the IH shop manual, has all the information you need to setup gears. You can also go the general board and search for 'Gearman'.

messin' with axles is not to hard, but...it's best to make sure you have the right tools. Dana 44's should be reassembled with a case spreader to get the correct preload on the carrier bearings. The other tools you need are torque wrenches, (inch pound and foot pound) new slip fit carrier bearings, dial indicator, and even a press to r and r the pinion bearing. Pay close attention to the shim packs that are already installed you need them to recalulate what the new shim packs should be. Have a few extra six packs on hand. <IMG SRC="smilies/beer.gif" border="0">

You can also find some decent gear write-ups if you search on line.
