Thanks to Dane (Smart Ass on the BB) for setting up the killer sound system and the FM 93.3 radio station. Dane and David worked their asses off in the freezing dark of early morning to get the equipment set up waaaay up there on the top of the rocks. They also slept out on that rock (no tent) so the equipment wouldn't have to be taken down all weekend...

In case any of you didn't know, that was ME on the microphone all day long, both days. It was my first time ever doing anything like that so my apologies for not doing a better job of it. I was a volunteer however and yeah, I was a little nervous. Not to mention I wuz freezing my ass off up there. My lips were so cold, I could hardly talk at times. There was supposed to be someone else with experience up there but he never showed up. So, even though I'm no pro, and it was ccccccold, I had a great time and managed to get in a number of interviews with drivers and some of their spotters. Besides the music and spotty commentary, we were able to make announcements and plug sponsors a number of times. I hear the hotdog guy sold completely out. :D I told you guy to get down there before they were all gone. I got mine and damn, it was good...:p

So, in spite of my lack of experience and obviously poor radio voice, what did you all think of Calrocs Radio?? Was it good to have some music and some talk added to the show? Would you like to have this type of communications at future events.

You did a great job Glenn.

But sleeping up there.....
It was damm cold when we stopped Sat. night at about 7:00 pm, I can only imagine what it felt like at 4:00 in the morn.

I cannot say this enough. All of the CalRocs volunteers go above and beyond to provide a great event. My hats off to everyone envolved.

n/p Glenn, i like to do what i can... :D

I believe me you and rich should meet up and refine the programming... I sent rich a detailed "next time - improvements" list. and asked if we could meet up sometime.

I had a blast! IT WAS FUKING COLD!!!! Thank gawd my old man lemme use his T100, i woulda probably gone into shock driving back at 2:30am with 1/2 doors, not to mention my gf woulda kicked my ass... :flipoff2:

I think for future broadcasts we need:

3 Talent's (or announcers), 1 at the start, one at the finish, and a general information announcer. This is new, and it was a great 1st run.
-this would keep the entertainment and informitiveness (is that a word??? :flipoff2: ) at its best. Less "DEAD AIR"
-I also believe we need to be more detailed, for example, think of your audience as BLIND, try to describe what is going awn.
-Get INTO IT, exadurate it, exploit it, go crazy...
I think the FM transmission setup can be intigrated with the suburban white guys and/or anyone else with a video camera.
-EXAMPLE: when starting announcer Mstr Sgnt. glenn is interviewing Walker Evans their will be a camera taping the happenings, much like any other pro sport racing events. Now with the techno babble protion, the camera person would have a walkan tuned to the cal rocs frequency and connect the audio into the camera, so the announcers will have a direct audio feed to the follow arround cameras.
A BIG ELECTRIC FENCE :D arround the general announcers area :D j/k

But all in all, you did a great job! and THANX 1000000 <---THATS A MILLION, For the coffee  sunday morning... too bad the propane heater tank ran out at 11am :( next time i'll make sure its FULL, and that we get out 10x10 plexy glass booth with direct TV, 35,000BTU heater, and hot tub :D you supply the girls :flipoff2:

Bwahahahaha!!!! I got ya'll with that one, didn't I?? When the fog rolled in, I could hardly see anything down at the bottom and I figured nobody could see us so we just threw that in to see if you guys were paying attention. It was damn near cold enough to snow but, no, it really didn't... Guys were calling me on the radio and even my cell phone, wanting to know if it was really snowing. :D

Now you're talkin. :D I can't believe you guys drank that awful coffee I made. Haven't made coffee at home in years but I got up at 4:30 and whipped that up. Sorry it wasn't better but it was all I had. In hindsight, I should have just stopped somewhere and bought 2 or 3 big cups of good coffee and filled the thermos on the way. Oh well, next time... :D I missed that heater when it ran dry. That sucker was a life saver though...

Damn, ya'll came a long ways. Should have come over and let me know. I could have announced it on the air. Or let you do it. :D Would have been a good interview opportunity. Anyways, glad you had a great time and thanks for coming all the way down from Canada, eh?

I totally agree with Smart Ass about having more than one person on the air. There's no way I could keep up the babble all day long by meself so yeah, there was a lotta 'Dead Air' when we had the music on hold... I like the electric fence idea too. :D:D There just wasn't room for spectators on our little outcropping and even with our efforts to keep people off, we still got unplugged a couple times from people tripping over the cords and stuff. At least twice we nearly had a disaster when drunken speckledtaters nearly stumbled right into the transmitter tower...

On a side note, when the girls were trying to peddle the programs and I let her talk on the air, Big Rich called me on the radio and said 'Get my daughter off the microphone, NOW'. Cracked me up... :D By the way Rich. Thanks for the kind words and I did get my FRS radio back before I left on Sunday...

The whole thing was a blast, waking up in a blanket of frost and dealing with both heat exhaustion and hypothermia in a two day spanwas not exactly pleasurable( ;) ) . All in all the radio thing is a fantastic idea, and I'd like to see it again next year.

I relly want the recgnoition to go to those who recieved a major headache, Rich, Bob and the countless voulenteers who helped plan, put up, clean up and tear down the whole event. Props to all you guys.

Glen, great job being the M.C. for two days strait & thanks for coffie

I stood right next to you while you were interviewing Walker Evans. Do you think that man has given an interview or two in his time? He can can make any ol' FM jocky look good but you did a great job too as yes I do think it's a great idea to continue with future event coverage.

Damn, wasn't he great though. All ya gotta do is ask him a question and he just goes with it. A true professional and a really nice guy too... Maybe if I do more events, I'll get better at it.

Dangit, why didn't ya say something to me? :( I can't believe how many people were there, saw me, stood close by but never said 'Hi'... Did I have B.O. or something? I couldn't tell cause my nose was frozen... :D:D

You did good for a 1st timer Glenn and I did say hello but you were also in process of running back up to "Mt. Glenn" so I understand if you don't recall. Besides with all that was goin' awn I gotta say that all that partook in coordinating and hosting the event , many, many  to all or you for puting on a 1st class event.
