I have a few boxes of the $21 wal-mart special bird shot... is there any reason I can't store it in my basement?? Humidity seems to be about 60% even with air flow.

If youre worried about it why not put it in the bottom of your closet or something?

$130 gets you a pretty decent dehumidifier.

Not enough room.

$130 gets you a pretty decent dehumidifier.

Yeah, that's the plan in the future... auto draining one.

Would also get a shit load of ammo cans.
The .30 cal cans are pefect size for 12g shells

Yes sir, but that's an unhealthy humidity level IMO.

2 3/4 and 3" or

Also, any idea how many fit in 1 .30 ammo can ? I have about 1500rnds of 12ga/20ga/16ga to put away.

What do you think happens to the moisture in the air, paper, and anything else you SEAL in there?

If in factory boxes and they must go in the basement, put all boxes in sealed plastic w/ silica gel and put the plastic in another box, seal the outer box and keep it off the floor.
I would put them in ammo cans for sure. I fit a few hundred loose per can.

OR... my garage has a really low humidity rate :flipoff2:

That's why you rig it with a schrader valve and pull a vacuum on the bastid. :flipoff2:

Then seal it in a giant version of one of those "as seen on TV" vacuum-seal systems. Like beef jerky or whatever. :p

Because, you know, that's way easier than tossing it in the bottom of your closet so that it's somewhere climate-controlled.

I`m thinking I put them in the ammo cans in my house which has 30% humidity... and I could also toss in a couple silica packs I have laying around too.

You can fit just about 100 2-3/4" 12 g in a 30 cal can.

Is the 100 just tossed in?

Stacked neatly or reasonably so.

Yeah the 100rd cheap wally world packs will fit in a 30cal can.
I stack them just like in a OE card board box.
I am pretty sure 3" 12g shells will fit.

We store all of our shotgun ammo in our basement on a shelf. We have had absolutely no problems with moisture but do have a dehumidifier running sometimes...

I agree. Anyone storing in a humid environment should get some desiccant packs
