: Tire advise needed
SLICK RICK 09-30-2002, 09:15 PM Guys what is the best wearing tire for 95% ON-Road driving in a tire size 38-42? I was looking at the TSL tires and wonder what the best "bang for my buck" would be. Basically which tires of all the ones out there in those sizes wear the best and I can get the most mile per dollar.. Thanks guys
Rick
Jeepmangled87 09-30-2002, 09:28 PM probably a TSL a bogger is just not a good street tire what so ever, but why not just run a 37 SSR, or 37 MTR good year, they will last you a good while, Swampers just arent for street use unless you like to buy a new set ever 6 months.
Old Scout 09-30-2002, 09:31 PM Interco Super Mall Bogger. it the perfect tire for posers that drive ther rig 95% of the time on the road!
Why are you here?

Well, you just ruled out any Swamper ever made. For 95% on-road with mileage as a major concern, look into a nice set of AT's. And don't forget, the white letters go out. :flipoff2:
This makes me sad:shaking:

Oh really? Then what are these:
Super Swamper Trxus MT/STS
http://www.intercotire.com/html/trxus_mt_sts.htm
http://www.samsoffroad.com/samsoffroadsto/SuperSwamperTrxusSTSAllTerrain.htm
If your going your to make fun of someone at least make sure your right! :flipoff2:
TTURokToy 09-30-2002, 09:47 PM My brother has the 39" version of the STS on his Chevy. He loves them. Says they are quiet and ride really nice.
Yeah, its a show truck, so what.
BrettM 09-30-2002, 10:00 PM 38"-40" tires for 95% street
It would be FAR cheaper to buy an early 90s Accord (or equivalent) to handle daily driving...
Pathmaker 09-30-2002, 10:04 PM what about those big Mickey Thompson tires what look like an AT that you see on a buch of show trucks (the Baja Belted line?) As you can tell I'm really educated on these tires. Is that what MudYota is talking about?
http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/images/or_baja_belted.gif
Only Mickey Thompsons I like are the claws but those ones might come in the right size you want and tread.

By the looks of Interco's website, those are not available in the sizes he wants just yet. If you're going to give someone shit for making fun of someone, at least make sure you're right:flipoff2:
yeah yeah, so they probably are available and Interco just doesn't have their website updated and I am just making an ass of myself. But it was worth a shot :flipoff2:

The 44's are out. Saw some on some show trucks.
The guy with the Accord comment was right on though. For the cost of a set of 44" rubber, you could buy a cheap 4-cylinder car to drive around.
TEX
SilverZuk 10-01-2002, 08:58 AM For the cost of 44's you could by a Zuk.
I'm with you on the 38-44 street tire.
"Yes, National tire and wheel - I was looking for a 44 inch tire that doesn't have too much road noise, gets good wear and - OH YEAH IT"S GOT TO IMPROVE MY CORNERING"
-click-
"Hey, are you still there"
SLICK RICK 10-06-2002, 12:58 AM AAA boy did I open a can of worms or what !!! I really appreciate the advise and I mean "advise" that some guys posted and to you THANKS... for those Jack-asses that just like to talk crap your talking to the wrong guy. I really should not have to justify myself to those idiots that talk, cause they are idiots with nothing better to do. I love this site because most people really like to help each other and that is the #1 thing that makes "our" sport so great. SO knock off the crap. Ok with that off my chest..... The "reason" I say 95% on-road is I USE my Ford to haul my Chevy to the trails. I am 4X4 thru and thru so dont give me crap. I have already put more mud time and off-roading time on my Ford "poser truck" than most people on this site will put on their "trail only" rigs and I drive it 60 miles a day to work.( I will be drastically reducing that in the future) Now enough!!! if you don't want to help a "wheeler brother" out then just shut the hell up.
I am simply asking for those of you guys who have run big tires on the street what did you like or dislike about what you ran and what would you reccomend ?
Thanks BROS...

What an asshole!!! Grow the fawk up and just answer the question, you wasted just as much time with your smart ass answer as you would have giving a real one.
Sorry Rick, even the moderators can be a pain.
P|n-BaLL 10-06-2002, 08:09 AM In these parts lotta folks that drive rigs to and from the trail due to a lack of tow rig run the Ground Hawgs...besides great mud action if rotated and properly looked after they seem to wear rather well...course I will be the first to admit they are not the worlds greatest road tire. But I did get well over 30K on a set of Hawg Radials (38's) and they were better mannered than any swamper I have run on the road, just for what thats worth.
NoRM
never tried them but the Perrelli Jones tires in that size look good.
I would consider a 38.5" Thornbird.... you can say what you want about them, but they are hard and wear well for LONG road life...
magoo117 10-06-2002, 01:22 PM What about those Cepek Quiet Giants do they still make them?they came in 44"

I would not suggest these things expecially if you drive 60 miles a day, there sound level is only rivaled by boggers and they wonder very bad. The Swamper STS's look to be the best and the 39's only cost as much as a 37" SSR, hell a guy even uses them in comp. so they can't be that bad offroad.
SLICK RICK 10-06-2002, 04:40 PM Thanks guys for the great suggestions. I was actually looking at the thornbirds but god there UGLY.. Jeep99 do you run your Jeep on the road at all? Are the Boggers REALLY REALLY bad on noise and handling?? I have a buddy that has a set of 18/39.5 boggers and I will try to talk him into letting me try them for a day or 2..... Thanks guys for all your help... Keep on Wheelin.....

I will also try to watch my spelling, I just get all excited and chit ya know.

uglyscout 10-07-2002, 05:36 AM With a full size pickup your gonna tear up any 'off-road' tire by driving it on the street all the time. Your truck just weighs too damn much...
But I have seen guys with SSR's on full size trucks cruising the streets, but I don't know how long they last.
John Deere Ranger 10-07-2002, 07:53 AM I in a since agree with you...... for those of us who can't trailer there rig to the trail and want some kind of 39 BFG or MTR...... I'd buy a set..... so when they gonna make em........ I figured the compition people would want them too......

There are boards much better suited for this kind of bullsheit. This kind of question has NO place on a hard core rock crawling page and I will defend POR's mission to stay hardcore. The question needs to be directed to a crowd like www.fullsizechevy.com to get a correct answer. There are 100s of poser rigs owners over there.
FatA$$ Toyota you think this board could run with out mods? What do you say I give you your 20.00 back and you can fawk off. BTW correctly spelled four letter words are a banable offence. 4x4grl has set a policy about this and you have been warned.

Nothing new they have always been in place.

I think half the chit-chat residents are in serious trouble if you start enforcing that one. ;) :D

Well, if you go back and read there slick, I never said that this board should not have mods. Where did you come up with that?
I think it does, and for the most part they do a good job. I am saying that you dont need to be so stand offish and verbally abusive to a guy asking a simple question. You wasted the same amount of time being so TUFF as you would have just telling him a descent answer.
Don't get your feelings hurt here man, I was just stating my opinion like you, are apparently, able to do. Isn't this a "DISCUSSION" board??
If it would make you feel better to give me my cash back, go ahead, I didn't ask for that but it is up to you. I am on a computer network with over 20,000 systems and I will get on somewhere besides this PC. I am not gonna beg you not to ban me, I can still logon to a comp. and read and search, it wont hurt my feelings if I can't respond to someone.
If your gonna ban me, you better read the policy, this is a board with a ton of vulgarities and sexually expicit wording and I can see how half the board could easily be banned at one point or another.
I am so sorry that I picked on the WRONG moderator. I didn't know that with language and responses like yours here and in other posts that you could so easily be offended.
