Hope you folks don't mind a Toyota guy intruding on your board. I'm planning a lightweight truggy using part of a Toyota cab and frame, Toyota 2L diesel and 2wd 5spd transmission mated to an 84 SJ410 t-case. I made up my adapter shaft and i think that's going to work just fine. What I need some suggestions on is the mounting for the t-case. I've done some reading - some say solid mount and some don't, Some beef up the stock mounting arms and some replace, etc. This is basically a clean slate so I can do whatever offers the best protection and strength. What is the wisdom from you folks? Start with one of the aftermarket "bucket" mounts and build from there? Thanks in advance.

i think the "snatch" is the best off the shelf mounting system out there. but i have a trail tough kong bucket with a "spine" (made by rockrat) arround the case and bolted to the kong. i also beefed up the arms from the frame to the bucket. i use the gorilla grip mounts by trail tough but i think if i was to do it again i would go with solid mounts being a 90% trai rig. it will all be for sale soon once i get my toy cases in there. i am gonna start making my adapter tomarrow:D

Thanks - I didn't know about the "snatch" unit. (love that name BTW). Looks like a great unit and easy to modify to fit my frame!

I used the bucket from Rockrat (Rock4xfabrication), and customized it. I have been beating on it for a while now. I was doing repeated 3rd and 4th gear clutch drops while rolling backwards on a ledge last w/e and no problems.
I did finally smoke the clutch a bit during one of those 4th gear drops:laughing:.

so most of us build off what we got. the knog is built well but wont fix the sami case habbit of lifting out to the passenger side. you want to make it right you got to do some cool shit. the part that scott at rock4xfab is way sweet. and handles the lift issues.
any how here are a few pics of what i did.. started with a passenger side that we got from trail tough. its a 2x3 120 wall square tube. that they build with. it has a small mount that bolts to the back of the case at the out put. i expanded on that, used some .250 stock i had laying around, built an arm to the back of the input shaft. theres 4 holes there drill and tap them. there not very deep so don't over do it or your case will have 4 extra holes. any how i used a 4x4x.250 flat stock. these all conect to the passenrer side mount them the fun starts. now you have a new mount point, this is where i want from to the drivers side fram rail. used 1.5,.250wall HERW 90 bend and a spring bushing. this thing has worked very well. in fact whn the mount for the drivers side lost its bolt out on some trail the case stayed in place.
here are a few pic's.....
