Acording to the charts I have it s a 9.5 14bolt which I am pretty sure is the semi floater. But my charts must be wrong if it says eaton.

Duramax trucks have the 11 1/2" "14 bolt" made by American Axle. Eaton does not own Dana, they are two completely different companies. The 11 1/2" axle is quite similar to the 10 1/2" 14 bolt that has been used by GM since 1973.

I was wondering about that, because one day when I was at the Chevy dealership getting my dad's vette tuned up I crawled under one 2002 crew cab dualie, and I counted 14 bolts, but the thing didn't look like my 14 bolt at all.

The 10.5 has a three bearing pinion, while the 11.5 has a two bearing pinion (No removable bearing suport cap)

The only thing that is the same is the number of bum cover bolts.

Not to be a jerk about it, just makeing a correction.

I think he was talking similarity of strength, at least that is what I was thinking about. Thanks for the info, I didn't know about the 2 bearing pinion. :( I had heard that the new axle was equal or superior in all ways, maybe not. What do you think about it? Have you had a chance to poke around in these things yet (can’t remember if you said).
