How safe is the wheeling in Tunisia? Minefields, etc?

I think politically, they are fairly stable these days, but I'd be kinda concerned about mines out in the rough. But, this might just be the American perspective from the other side of the world.

Nice truck, looks like you've had some fun with it.

Tunisia was safe, just a lot of police control in the north to know were we plan to go. A local guide seems now to be necessary nowadays like in Lybia.

Cool. I seem to remember one of the magazines was talking about the North Africa wheeling and the risk of mines, but it may have been further east where it is less stable.

I had a friend in college who was Tunisian, he spoke highly of the beauty of the place.

Buddy ran them on his Jeep TJ, all this is what he conveyed (and what I saw on the trails) about the SSR.

I'd recommend only using them for off road tires only. They are extremely noisy and uncomfortable...well, compared to a BFG AT.

Crappy performance on the rocks, crappier than the BFG MT (same tire size). Also the thinner sidewall is of concern.

Did well in the mud.

The ultimate Land Rover tire is the Michelin XZL. If you can get them! I have XLs and would give my left nut for a set of 9.00r16 XZLs

Your joking right? They are horrid tires. Hard as a rock.

I would rather spin a bit more but not worry about flats and tearing off lugs and cutting sidewalls. You know you will get a lot of miles out of them, I want nothing to do with super sticky IROKS that wear out after 5000kms on asphalt.

The ZXL tire sucks balls in the cold... Snow or ice they are deadly can't turn or stop!!! On my trip to Moab last year they did chunk out a bit on the rocks... They will last a long time but there are MANY better options out there:flipoff2:

Hi guy's, Don't care about michelin XZL9.00x16, there are designed for light trucks as 101 with weight on it to "balloon"

What about SSR Radial Super swamper, but don't know what size is the best between 285/75x16 (33.9" OD, 11.4"witdh) or 35"x10.5"x16...

Any opinion (or picts of 90" with those tyres?) :mad3:

I have been driving XLs,XZLs and XMLs in snow for about 6 years now on 3 different rigs in 4 different sizes. They all work in snow and suck the bag on ice (hard as Hockey pucks), But so do the BFG MTs and ATs I have run as well. I think the only decent winter ice tire is the Yokohama GO72, and its available up to 315-75-r16. I run a set of 30 inchers on my 2wd Chevy and they work great.

I'm using them as spares for my SSRs. Good size for a Rover if you don't want to do any trimming. Never run them, though....

I should add that I've been very surprised by the SSRs. They are better on snow and ice than any all season I've driven. On par with a lower end winter tire. Not something I expected.

you will like the swampers. i always shoe my series with swampers. we run a lot of mud though, so i could not tell you how they will work in sand. i love everthing about thoses tires. they hook up nicely, you got to get em spinning, so dont be afraid to use a lot of throttel, the loud noise they make while on the pavement. everytime you will turn heads. i love the people that give a thumbs up and LOL at those people that you can see the head turn, the lip snarl, and look of discuss comes across their face.

First off great action pics! And nice looking 90.

I just got 4 used 285/75-16 SSR's to swap out from 255/85-16 BFG MT's KM's so it's pretty close to what you have done.

For comparison sake the 285/75-16s measured 33" w/ 40 PSI on a Wolf rim (previous owner said there was 6k miles on the SSR's) So the 35x10.5's are a bit narrower and taller - which is a good thing in my book. I'll probably run the used SSR's and depending how they do, go with the 35x10.5's. Thanks for showing the pics comparing them to the 255 BFG's.

Would love to hear what you think about them both on and off-road and would be interested in how they handle being stuffed into the wheel arches.

Here new SSR 35"x10.5"x16"... 1" lift front +1.5" rear on modular 7x16.

Light cutting extensions

On road, not so loud (same as BF Mud), no bad vibs.

On highway, GPS speed totaly same that the counter, drive @ 70 - 75 mph is easy in 5th, only 4th on big hills.

On rough terrain it's simply perfect...

Look @ this little video, no difflock, only front truetrac...

nothing like swampers! they sure do out perform the competion when it comes to off road use. theres nothing else IMHO.... you could even air em down a bit more. i would take mine down to 8-9 psi, if we were carring a bit of gear 12 psi to be save. keep em tall and skinny!
