I'm putting a pan on a 545rfe, snowed in, can't go get atf rtv right now. I got some axle rtv, are they virtually the same thing?

Didn't know there was a difference. I just use the Ultra Black on everything. Was once told to use red silicone on a diff cover because the limited slip additive isn't compatible with other types of RTV, but now I just use the black and haven't had a problem.

never seen a special "atf" rtv. i always use red on auto trannies and diffs with good results (well except with my latest attempt on my 98 GC- can't get the pan to not leak no matter what method i try)

thanks, I didn't know until I started reading today there was specific types of rtv either, but sure enough, they are 2 different part #'s for axle/atf rtv from mopar. no matter, I used what I had. the f'ing transmission is still shot, I was doing a last fluid flush trying to get a little more life outa' the one in there, but no deal. shifting it into gear makes no difference at all, it doesn't engauge reverse or any forward gears.

Having worked at a dodge dealer I tended to use axle for axles and atf for auto trannys, but never really saw a difference other than color. If you mix the two though it cures really fast and smokes :D
