I am about to start my build up on my YJ (posted a week ago with details), but I figure I'm going to have to fab up a high steer setup and probably some other items...
My question is:
I can't exactly remember the model # and manufacturer of the machine, but its a smaller unit.. (its at my former high school)... What are the limitations of these units?? Can I mill thick steel with it at a very very slow speed? Sorry if this question is vague, just trying to plan ahead...
Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks

You mean like Sherline or Taigs? Small units for the hobbyists...

Unless your using it to teach the class or somthing, I wouldn' t waste my time on that little mill. So what if it's a CNC, No tool changer, ONLY 1/3 HP!! If I read the spec's right it'll only hold a 3/8 endmill. I think those are only for machining plastics & light alloys to give students a scaled down version of a real machining center to practice their programming & other skills on.
Do you have access to a Bridgeport, or some other manual mill? You could slap the material in a vice, make your chips & be bolting the parts on the Jeep before you program, setup, & wait for that little POS CNC to do its thing, (which will be forever with a tiny endmill & no HP.)
Just an opinion,

thanks, I see what you mean... I don't personally have access to any heavy duty milling equip... but I could just get a local machine shop do the work...
You might try a local Tech school. They might let some of their students do some of your parts as a project or even sign up for a class yourself and do it for your own project. Just a thought.

To bad your so far away.
I run a machine shop in Fremont CA
33 cnc's. I do all the programming for them too. I'm constantly making stuff my rig and my friends rigs. If you give me a print of what you want I could quote you a price and even ship it to you.
Thanks
