went out to start my scout the other morning. It started and ran for about 5 minutes, then just quit. When I turned it over it fires, but wont hold. Sounds like it wants to start but cant.

I figure fuel problem so:
(all the equipment from fuel pump to carb including the Qjet is only 3 months old, no problems until today.)

I checked the inline fuel filter (glass) and it is clear. I found a fuel leak at the fitting into the fuel filter, and one where the hose is clamped to the ss inlet line into the Q-jet. I figured if gas can get out , maybe air is gettin in. Tighened them both and no more leaks but it still won't start. Same condition tries but wont hold.

Next i though fuel pump (mechanical)I unhooked the fuelline from the inlet and turned it over and gas pumped out fine.

The only other thing I can think of is a vacuum leak. The only vacuum lines (all new hoses) I have are Power brakes, PCV, and Distibutor. All the rest are plugged with fresh plugs.

Does it just die, or stumble then die? If it just ups and dies, you may want to look into the Gold box, plugs, etc. You may also have an issue with the fuel tank, old tank lots of crude, a nice sized chunk may clog the pickup, when the engine dies it floats off again.

Have you checked to see if it will run by pouring a little gas in the carb. If it runs then you have a fuel problem, if not it could be electrical like jdjanda said.
