Does anyone know how I can convert a 345 spread bore intake manifold to fit on my newly rebuilt 304 engine? I am aware that Super Scout Specialists sell one but since I already ave one I was wondering if it only needs to be machined to fit or if I need an adapter.

You would need to machine the intake manifold so it was about 1" narrower - at that point, you have no mounting tabs left.

Get that solved, and then you'll need to fill the intake runners on the manifold so they have a square port into the square-port 304 heads, vs. the rectangular port 345/392 setup.

In short, "no."

SSS doesn't sell a 4bbl intake - GUS did, and Light Line of Louisiana (that bought GUS) *might*..

Otherwise, you could try "slotting" the 2bbl 304 intake, machining the top flat, and redrilling for a 4bbl..

Or bust out the welder and some tubing and build a sheetmetal intake.

I spent a good three months just hanging around here, reading the posts and getting a feel for the boards. For the most part all other boards out on the web are mellow, polite, and PC, not here. I suspect that Chewie will never post again, or maybe start posting after a couple of counseling sessions to deal with the issues about his mother, dog, and the guy next door. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

At least the IH board has not heading the route of the Heep board. I truly feel for the extreme Heep guys, they can't get a question in edge wise.

TSM1MT Thanks for the information. JDJANDA and YDB if this really gets you that excited you might want to rethink your life priorities. The reason I need the info now and unable to wait for the BB is because I am deploying and need my Scout to be operational for my family in my absence.
