: Dana 44 trac bar/draglink angle questions

Hey guys, I have a '97 Ranger that I am doing a solid D44 swap on. I am running the Skyjacker 8" springs off of the TTB lift.

My questions concern the draglink and trac bar angles.

I am trying to decide if it is better to mount the draglink under or over the pitman arm.....

Over pitman arm=shorter trac bar bracket (about 6" below the frame), greater angles on draglink and trac bar, more axle movement (side to side) when suspension moves.

Under pitman arm=longer trac bar bracket (about 8" below the frame)--more leverage on the frame, but lesser angles on draglink and trac bar, less axle movement (side to side) when suspension moves.

I know there are pros and cons to both setups, but which would be the better setup??

I have bushings that will allow the axle to move through its entire range of travel, without binding the rod ends, when mounting above the pitman arm. I am also running a brace from the engine crossmember for additional support for the trac bar bracket.

thanx guys.

I was told that there are two things to watch out for (both of which you probably already know) - 1, make sure the draglink and trackbar are at the same angle and as close as possible to the same length, and 2, to have the angle between 6 and 8 degrees.

My swap was on an 89 Bronco, so a little different, but not much. I ended up raising the axle-end mount for the trackbar by about 3", and having about a 3.5" drop off the frame. I also braced it to the crossmember, exactly as you mentioned. I ended up with about a 7.5 degree angle. The draglink ended up on top of my pitman arm.

My suggestion is to measure the angles - see where you're at, it might be obvious to you at that point which way to go.

Yea, I know about the angles and lengths. They will be within an inch of being the same length, and the angles will either be the same or the trac bar will be slightly steeper, to compensate for being an inch shorter.
I don't remember hearing anything about the 6 to 8 degrees, though. But if I go by that, then I believe I will have to go under the pitman arm. The draglink and tracbar just came in today. So I will hook them up and take some measurements.

I have thought about moving the trac bar mount on the axle up, but I can't figure out a way to brace it up good enough to suit me.

thanx.
