: Transfer Case and other Questions

So at 135,000 miles the wifes' 04' H2 has a broken shifter fork in the transfer case. While it's apart I am going to replace the shocks (it's time), replace a seal in the front differential, and fix some minor issues inside and out and generally make it how she wants it to be again.

My questions are;

Does anyone know what the improved part numbers for the shifter fork and transfer case output bushings are? Information on the Borg Warner 4484 is about impossible to get online it seems. I did manage to find an exploded view of the transfer case but it didn't have any part numbers listed. GM wants to sell me a rebuilt transfer case. I want to fix the one I have myself.

On to the shocks. What's available these days that's worth a damn? My only exposure to anyone who has put on an aftermarket shock was a guy running the Edelbrock shocks with a remote reservoir. He had good things to say about them. What else should I check out.

I know the front differential housing is a weak link. What year models did they go to the iron housing? Were these also found in the Chevy/GMC trucks? What models/years if they were.

Thanks for your input.

Replace the seal between the transfer case and transmission as long as you have it apart, unless you have already done it. I will see what I can do for parts numbers.

Shifter Fork I have two options and you did not specify:
High/Low
#8896629
$100
2/4wd Shaft Fork
#19180821
$23
Output shaft bearing not specified
Rear output
#88984506
$103
all prices are plus tax and shipping

Thanks for the part numbers. What is the 2/4wd shaft fork? The 4484 is full time 4wd with a center differential. I have been considering swapping in a different transfer case to allow 2wd operation but no decision has been made yet.

Anyone have any input on shocks or the front differential?

If your H2 is at standard height I would www.gorancho.com If your truck is lifted tell me what you have done and I see what I can do to help.

The front diff on the H2 is actually pretty stout. In many cases you will break a front 1/2 shaft before you break the diff. There is no upgrade for the H2 front diff. It was always aluminum and it's not the same front diff in a 2500 series truck. The front diff in the H2 is its own animal.
