TresYotas 12-26-2009, 03:37 PM Any new flooding in the notches area of truck haven? Last time I was there everything was getting pretty worn down and I m hopeing that the rain a couple of weaks ago might have helped out. Im planning on spending new years there.:smokin:

When we were there T-day weekend, everything in the notches was pretty much driven over.
In my estimate, it will take some huge downpours out there to change anything dramatically.
Just look around past the mesas to the north/east of the notches.
Probably take a few good storms to carve out the notches again.
Try going one wash over due north from the notches at Palm Wash, the one with a tether ball pole and the arch or "tunnel as some people call it. It's got some nice twisty stuff.

Infernal Jeep 01-22-2010, 01:26 PM Please do . This rain may make some cool new notches :smokin:
Or wash all the existing ones out :(
_peteyg 01-22-2010, 02:06 PM No matter what it is going to be one big sloppy mess. Truckhaven mud sucks. It's all clay. You will be cleaning that crap off your rig for YEARS. Have fun!:D
Sloppy is an understatement out there, I believe it was Thanksgiving '04 or so and it rained. Talk about slippery:eek: The fun doesn't end there, when it dries it's like cement...real nice when you're working underneath your rig and a chunk nails you in the face:laughing:
Infernal Jeep 01-22-2010, 08:49 PM Yup , I agree . That mud IS like clay and becomes difficult to impossible to clean off once it dries . Nothing like stepping in it either , it becomes one giant mud patty stuck on the bottom of your shoe
Went out to T-haven this weekend and the conditions were awesome:smokin: Wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, I would call it moist with pockets of mud. The main washes are still wet but they are mostly sand so not a big deal.
The best part of it all is there was NO dust, that was nice.
Anyways, the notches for the most part remain unchanged. There was a small channel carved out in the bottom of the main "notch" with some soft mud in there. Definitely made things interesting but i'm sure after a few weekends of wheelers out there, things will flatten things out again.

Charlietuna 02-01-2010, 03:23 PM Okay, I'm a relative newbie, so please limit your shots to two bullets each....
Where exactly are "the notches" in relation to where TDS has their base camp? Turn off 86, head west towards Borrego and then...........?

It would be hwy86, then turn onto N. Marina drive (you'll be heading west) pavement ends and turns to dirt, you'll come to a fork in the road, stay right then you can head due north across the wash (Palm wash) and you'll run into the "notches".

Charlietuna 02-02-2010, 06:15 AM Thank you and thank you......Went to TDS last year for the first time and only stayed for the day. After I got home and started looking at all the pictures, I realized I missed a lot of stuff, so this year, I'm camping and want to try and hit all the "spots" just to check it out....
thanks again....
the4wheeler 02-02-2010, 10:06 AM i think its gona require a El-Nino year to recut the Notches unforchantly and i think thats still a fiew years out.
did a quick look and did not see a Rollcall for 48th TDS has one been started yet?
SanDiegoCJ 02-04-2010, 05:57 PM Those are the "old" notches and pretty worn down. We know where some better
ones are, including some near the present TDS headquarters site on the south
side of S-22. :D
_peteyg 02-09-2010, 04:31 PM There's good stuff to be found around the South side of Telephone Booth Hiil, too. You gotta look for it, but it's there.
