: guys running 'pane...going to KOH
Lil' lucifer 12-26-2009, 08:52 PM Thinking about coming to wheel and watch KOH......had a question though.....
I'm running propane on my toy. How far is it from the king of the hammers to a gas station that would sell propane?
Mustard Dog 12-26-2009, 09:20 PM Go East 15-20 miles from Boone Rd on 247 to Landers and you can get it there, or go West on 247 24.5 miles to Lucerne and you can get it there too;)
Lil' lucifer 12-26-2009, 10:46 PM well thats not that bad....I guess.....:p
Hammer Hog 12-27-2009, 01:49 AM What MD said, except it's only 11 miles to Mojave Market & a bit more to the better Hero's Market...and that's from Boone/Hwy 247. (Both have all fuels).
BTW, Hero's has a very decent deli, and a restaurant, and good eats across the street.

ssic off road shop 12-27-2009, 10:56 AM I clicked on here to ask this ? also. I have 4 bottles and a buggy w/toyota motor and a first gen with a small block. So I will be looking for someone to go into town with when they go for sure. Car pool for pane. I will be there all week. If anybody on pane sees a SSIC offroad shop sticker on a truck (should be about 5) stop it and make contact for a carpool into town.

Just to clarify, these are in the Landers/Yucca (east) direction?
I used to always come from the west, but I recently moved and now the Yucca Valley route is shorter for me. Only done it once at night though.

Propane 12-28-2009, 07:51 AM There will be enough rigs running it that maybe we should look into having a local L.P. company come out and fill tanks. I would think it would be worth their while around thursday.

DCuzzz 12-29-2009, 09:49 AM Called a friend at AmeriGas and gave them all the info.
They are going to look in to it. I'll post any info I get from them when I get it.
There is a second propane company in town, but AmeriGas is the easiest to deal with.
Edit: Be aware that around here propane delivered is about $1.00 more a gal.

Jeff Knoll 12-30-2009, 01:42 PM Sounds like a great idea guys but let me throw a couple monkey wrenches in the works.
BLM has some pretty strict rules regarding vendors on BLM lands. Part of that is a permit, and of course insurance. An additional part of that permit is that they get a percentage of the gross sales. Keep that in mind when setting this up.
the second monkey wrench is that we looked into getting a fuel supplier for the race, and BLM does not allow that what so ever. They would not allow us to do any type of fuel transfer at JVOHV area.
I talked to the guy that brings fire wood down there and he got popped with a fine a little while ago for soliciting fire wood for sale, so they do enforce this.
Please just do your homework, because the BLM will come knocking on our door when the event does things they don't like, and a permit is a privledge not a right.
Maybe you can find a local land owner that wants to make a few bucks during the week, setting up a refueling station?
Roxywheels 12-30-2009, 02:59 PM And to add more to what Jeff said, I know the propane company that delivers here to the campground will not fill smaller bottles. They will only do the large tanks and won't even touch the ones on RV's. So if something works out with a local land owner, you may want to make sure the propane company knows what sizes bottles you want to fill. :roxy:

Propane 12-30-2009, 05:35 PM Well shoot. At least we don't have to worry about the tarp for refueling, right???

No Propane does not need a tarp, but I would do it anyway, perception and all.:smokin:

Very true. As I hit submit I remembered how nice it was last year to pit with a tarp to keep me clean. I was the undercar guy looking for loose bolts, clamps, etc. I found a loose radiator hose clamp that was leaking on JackA'S rig that I think might have popped off soon. Without a tarp I might have missed that.
