I was wondering if any one has had good, bad or ugly times buying a truck from out of state. I live in CA and was thinking about buying a 2000 Super Duty truck from the east coast. DMV, Taxes that stuff what it will cost.
Thanks Eric

Shouldn't be a problem. I live in TN and bought my CJ8 from Ohio. The only problem I had was Ohio requires the title to be notarized in order to transfer ownership (I didn't know this until I was at the TN DMV).
Also, my understanding is that you will have to pay sales tax in your home state when you register the vehicle. If you paid sales tax in the other state that may offset the amount required in your home state.
Whatever you do, since the requirement will vary from state to state, research by calling your state and the sellers state DMV to determine what their regulations are.

Make sure it will pass CA smog. Some cars they sold on the east coast don't need to pass that strict of smog. (mainly cheaper cars.......) but it's worth it when you are dropping a big chunck of change on a truck like that to check it out first. :D
Also check with the DMV for the sales tax rate and the amount on which they will charge. Usually based on vehicle value instead of what you paid for it.

Hey freshman...what happened to your big ass chevy? Is the new truck going to substitute for your old tow rig?

Thanks. And it will be a diesel.
Mike the Chevy is still going strong but I am looking at traveling alot next year and a longer and more powerful truck would be nice to have.

Eric when I bought the 69 it was from oregon. I had to get a weight certificate and have it inspected at dmv, it wasn't any big deal.
My understanding is, diesels don't have to be smogged.... right?

I bought my 73 EB in Oregon. Drove it home to CA. DMV just wanted to see it and make sure the numbers matched. No smog issues since it's inside the breakoff period (73 and earlier no longer req'd to get smogged).
I've *heard* that for used newer vehicles, as long as it'll pass smog there aren't any issues.
