someone told me that it's 400 ft/lbs of torque...i was going to a 14bolt in the rear, but found a 70....so i was askin' the same question...i would double check that though.

The 14 bolt uses a crush sleeve, not a set of shims and washers. You'll need to crush the crush sleeve to an adequate level (proper preload and proper pinion depth) which, may be around 400 pounds of torque.

i am just changing the yoke, the crush sleave has already been crushed.
Does anybody have a chevy service manual to look it up in.

thanks

Hey Ian, I just went through this on my 60 and have been told anywhere between 400 ft lbs. to a 16" breaker bar and give it all you got. different people asked all gave different answers so go figure but do post when you find out because I'm curious as to what a manual says.

Ian, on your 14 bolt rear there is no torque on the pinion nut. The crush sleave can only be used one time. If you are changing your yoke, you must use a new crush sleave and a new pinion nut and a seal, with the pinion held the nut is thighen till you have 12 to 16 inch pounds of rotational drag on the used pinion bearings. 18 to 22 for new bearings. steve Differential eng. inc.
