: My first AR-15 and I need help

Thanks to 4runner, Animator, Azzy, and Ben i have built my first AR-15. I took it out this weekend to test fire it and when i pulled the trigger, i got nothing. After fooling around with it i found when i pulled the hammer back on to the disconnector it will click twice. Pull the trigger and i get nothing...safety off. When i pushed down on the back of the disconnector the hammer click up once. Then when i pulled the trigger it worked fine. If i pushed the trigger pivot pin out a little past receiver, everything worked and fired fine.

I took it all apart just now and reinstalled the LPK watching a youtube video and using Doc's write up. It still does it...WTH? :(

It sounds like a problem with the disconnector. If you assemble the LPK without the disconnector, does the trigger catch and release the hammer normally? (Obviously, don't try to live fire the gun like that.)

It works fine without the disconnector. I am guessing i need a new one...Did you get your paypal Ben?

Sounds like a bad FCG. Whose is it?

In the photo it looks like the left leg of the hammer spring is under the trigger pin while the right is ontop of the pin. Both are supposed to be on top.

Post a photo with the hammer up

Pete, that pic was taken with the pivot pin pushed out, so yes one spring was lower than the other. Like that it worked. With the disconnector out it works as well. I will put the disconnector back in and take a pic. brb

I think so, but it could be a bad hammer or trigger too. Got anybody local from whom you can borrow another FCG and see what fixes it?

animator is local. we will get it fingered out lol.

has Animator done anything with his receivers?

I am wondering if the issue is there?

so.

wheres the "freerider your a fawking moron for not putting a FCG together correctly" or "freerider, go join the numidian and halogrinder club"?

go fawk that peanut gallery, i say :flipoff2:

i think you need to kiss the height of the disconnector up, based on your craptastic photo shooting skills :flipoff2:

that or the disconnector needs to be able to "rock" a little further back.

dont listen to me, i fawk up bowling balls with sponge hammers :flipoff2:

We're sitting quietly by, because Freerider knows the secrets to PBB peace:
He showed up to 4runner's shoot.
He brought along a good-looking woman, which is better than what most of the rest of us did.
The two of them brought us food. Good food. Lots of it.
We, therefore, give him a free pass on doing something dumb with his FCG.

The disconnector spring is in with the fat side towards the trigger, right?

I thought it was mainly because it looks like it is assembled correctly

Never heard of them.
Photo #6 looks correct.
Swap out the FCG for a known name. Stag/CMMG/DPMS/RRA/DoubleStar
If the FCG from one of those mfgs doesn't work the the problem is with the receiver.

The disconnector spring is in with the fat side towards the trigger, right?

This is what I would check first, and if not, then replace as suggested above

I have assembled several using FCG from Bushmaster and never had this problem. Stock trigger pull kinda sucks but never any kind of malfunction...ever

Fat side towards trigger....you mean fat side down. So the spring tapers upward? That's how it is installed.

Correct, fat side down, narrow side up. Keeps the spring seated all the way down in the trigger, and doesn't catch on the top of the trigger if it bows a little off-center.

Alright, update. I wasn't able to get over to Animators house, but i took my flash light and started poking around in the fcg. I found that the little hook at the top of the hammer was catching the disconnector when pressed down. I chucked the hammer up in the vice and took my dremel to it and did a little bit at a time until it wouldn't catch anymore. Problem fixed :smokin:
