i know most rear 60's spindles are to small to fit a 35sp shaft into, so what i am wondering is are all rear 60's able to be bored out to 1.6in or only select years?

lets think about this together for a minute.

if the OD remains constant because of the bearing then regardless of the origanial ID you should be able to bore a larger hole and end up with the same wall thickness as one that came 1.6. that is unless the 35 spline spindles use larger bearings. hhhhhhhhhhmmmm never mind i don't know shit about that stock stuff. just order some custom 40 spline bling bling and be done with it. :D

The Dana 70 and the Dana 60 have the same OD on spindle.........at least on a few examples I have measured...so shouldn't be an issue to bore a 60 with 1.31 shafts to fit the 1.50 shafts...and in fact we have done quite a few with good long term results.

See on the inside of the 30 spliner spindle, there's a bevelled edge? That's basically removed when you bore them out. There are pictures on PBB somewhere in a thread. I'm too lazy to find them.

Lets see:
1. There 1.5" 35 spline
2. There very common in most u-pull it yards for 25.00-30 ea
3. They can be cut down to any size you need for very little $ by Dutchman.
4. They fit a D60 hub
5. did I say there cheap?

30 spline ff 60 spindles can be bored with out a problem, it takes some sometime and if your not carefull ruin an expesive bit, you really need to be attatched to your housing to put forth the effort.

So Dutchman can roll new splines. raising them above the shaft diameter just like the 70's picured?
That's just what I've been needing to know!:)

And when you wake up, make sure you have $300 ready for new shafts. :D

there's a NOS Dana 70 on ebay with 4.56's a detriot and 35sp shafts for $500 and no one's bid on it. I'll chip in for DSI if it kills this thread:flipoff2:

that's a 44 shaft, not a 70.
if, as you said, the 70 does not neck down, and it's got rolled in splines, as in the picture you posted. then it can't be cut and resplined.

OK heres the deal... boring the spindle out to 1.6" is not the best of ideas. This comming from Sandy Cone. Dodges come with the correct ID (<1.5) Fords came with the smaller bore. It is recomended that a neck down type shaft is used so that a bore of no less than 1.51" can be used. This is to prevent friction/inertia welding your brand new $$$ shaft to the inside of the spindle. Oh and if anyone is looking to do this check these out...... Will a stock Dana 70 35 spline axle fit on a FF Dana 60 spindle/housing?

Does anyone have a Dana 70 axle laying around that they could measure? What is the hole pattern diameter? What is the length from inside the flange to the end of the spline?

I wanted the Dana 60 for the better ground clearance over the Dana 70 or 14 bolt. The price for a stock axle is about the same for any of them. I had to pay the $300 for the Moser 35 spline axles but that was the trade off for ground clearance.

That's what I figgered, unless someone can roll in the splines that swell above the shaft diameter like a factory D70.

Nice try Scout ... no cigar for you this time. :flipoff2:
