So I had decided to pull the trigger on a used Model 19 today. Had a wad in the pocket.

The wife wanted to go shopping so I decided to slide by the range & see what they had on the consignment rack...

Long story short, I wound up with a used Taurus 669. .357 w/6" barrel. Finish is in excellent shape, timing is nice, has a tight, crisp feel. Grips in good shape. Doesn't actually look like it's been used a lot. Cylinder gap is a snug .008".

I really wanted a 4" barrel, but just couldn't say no...:shaking:

$300 out the door. About $150 less than I woulda paid for the S&W.

Ah well... if the Smith is still there next month...:smokin:

Oh yeah... the wife was looking at the Bersa .380 but fell heavily in lust with the Sig Mosquito .22... What have I done?:D

I'd say you fawked up, but I am very partial to the older S & W, especially the 19 or 66.

Kinda like "I was going to get the Cadillac, but I got this Crown Vic for 30% less"

Go put the Smith on layaway

If you're happy with it, you did fine.

Dayum... hadn't thought of that...:homer:

I could see if a couple hunnert bones would hold it a month... All he can do is say no....

hehe... I told the wife that the Smith was a Lexus & the Taurus was a Hyundai...:D

My S&W 66 is by far my favorite gun I own.

The mosquito is a nice little gun, just wish I had the threaded barrel since Sig won't sell it individually.

If you end up getting her one, buy the threaded barrel and pm me so we can trade. :D

Its also a helluva lot cheaper to shoot the mosquito than the .380!

Hm, probably more like a Lexus and a Toyota. Taurus copied Smith's basic design, but the S & W is a cut above in the fit and finish dept as well as trigger pull

"Snug" .008"?

Maybe I've been hanging around with target revolvers too much, but "snug" doesn't enter my mind until we're talking .004" or less.

You didn't do horrible, but you didn't do great, either. I would've held out for the S&W.

Basically, if you get a Taurus, the money you saved on it vs. a S&W will be what you'll have to pay a gunsmith to get it to run like a S&W.

The mosquito sucks. Get a P22. Or better yet, get a Sig with a .22 conversion kit.

I don't think the mosquito sucks, but I would rather have a conversion for something I already owned.

You did fine, my dad sold a 669 three or four years ago for $280. If you have the funds I wouldn't let this purchase stop you from getting the 19. As for the fit and finish S&W is a step above, in my experience not a huge step. That being said I did take a file and buffing wheel to my brand new taurus that I bought this month before I had even shot it.

Looking back, I do wish I had purchased a 229 with a conversion bbl...

Now i will just have to have both.

"Snug" .008"?

I meant an .008 feeler gauge is a snug fit. (Didn't have a .007) I would call it between .007 & .008.

I'm gonna go see about the Smith tomorrow....

Damn voices in my head... one wants me to go back to the gun shop & one wants me to head over to Napa...:flipoff2:

Dang... went back over there & I dunno if the guy wants to sell it or not. I've been salivating over it for 2 or 3 visits. He KNOWS I want it. Doesn't make the slightest effort at a sale. Hell, I walked into the range down the hill with NO intention of buying anything and wound up owning (but NOT possessing:mad:) a gun that really wasn't what I had in mind. Well.... he WAS assisted a bit by the wife. "Doooo eeeet" she said!

So tell me. You're a small shop owner, ya don't get more than a few consignments at a time. Ya get a S&W 19 from a LEO to sell. Ya tellin' me ya know NOTHING about the weapon? Hmmm...

Ahh well...The holster wear on the 19 is significant. Down to bare metal at a spot near the muzzle. I may just wind up stashing more cash, lurk, and then pounce on a 19 in better cosmetic condition. With this economy I suspect more are going to be turning up. :(

Why does it suck? Is Sig making POS now?

The wife liked it because of the way it fit her hand and the fact that I was going WTF at the weirdass way they laid out the controls... she knows I wouldn't likely be borrowing it much...:shaking:

Ummm... she's WRONG, BTW. I liked the feel of it, too...:smokin:

Well then, you'd like the item I purchased today. A S&W 28-2 Highway patrolman. Near as I can tell it's a 1966 model and it is sah-weet.:smokin:

I bring 'er home the 26th...
