im getting a poping in 4wd only i replaced the u joints on the front shaft but only lubed up the ball in the carden joint, shop is telling me transfercase but with the shaft removed theres no noise will a bad ball make a pop knock noise?

It can and they can be a real bitch to rebuild. Parts are pretty cheap, it's just one of those pain in the ass things. Usually if the pivot ball is bad you can feel it in the joint when you flex it with the shaft off the truck.

ok it felt fine when i flexed it and yes a big pita lol i'm lost with this truck it does it in reverse and drive all speeds faster the truck gos the faster the clicking/poping. wile in 4wd ill drive like 20mph and kill the truck and wow its loud coming from mid to front of the tcase almost like a catch then release pop its hard to explane.....(edit i did replace all 3 joints on the front shaft but not the ball)

I just rebuilt my CV shaft and had a bitch of a time with the ball so I left the old one in, changed the rest of the assembly and u joints though. No sounds for me. The ball didn't look very worn though.
