I currently live in FL and I am moving to the LA area this summer. I am about to finish my Pre-Engineering AA at the local community college and I am going to finish my last two years at one of the Universities in Southern California. Right now I am trying to find out as many 4x4 shops as I can because that is where I would like to work. Can anyone tell me of some shops that I can contact?
Also, I drive a 1993 YJ and here in FL we don't have smog checks. I know for a fact my YJ will fail, it has so many exhaust leaks and God knows what else wrong with the emissions. What all should I start doing to get my YJ smog ready?
Thanks,
-Joe
There's a lot of desert race, crawler/trail type shops and some that dabble in both. What are you looking to get into?
Some crawler/trail type shops:

For engineering Cal Poly is probably your best bet. Poly Performance is also probably the best shop if you want to work with "real" parts, rigs and people that rock crawl. www.polyperformance.com
4WPW is an "ok" job to keep you in the industry and get your feet wet while going to school, but you wont get far as they are 90%+ bolt on queen stuff, and no design of fab.

I just browsed the Cal Poly website and it looks pretty good. I'm going to do more research, but I'll be in California for a year before I go to school. How far is Cal Poly from LA? On a map it looks to be a pretty good distance.

Not a problem, my engine is 100% stock! Haha :smokin:
The only major problem that I am aware of is that my exhaust is toast. Dozens of holes, a broken header at the collector, and the original cat and muffler which I know have to be well past expiration.

Scratch everything, the move is off. The Coast Guard was going to pay for me to go to school out there through one of their programs. Unfortunately, I found out today that I am medically unfit to join the Coast Guard, or any branch of the military. Thank you to everyone who did offer help, I appreciate it.
Thanks,
-Joe :(
