: Pack it in and Pack it out.
Chevyman Dan 01-04-2010, 08:09 AM To all the pigs who left there trash at Johnson Valley New Years weekend, and you know who you all are, pack your shit out!!! Your mommies dont live at JV to clean up after you and wipe your asses, so you guys need to act like responsible adults and clean up after yourselves. It is people like you, and you know who you all are, that is going to get JV closed down for everyone. So if you pack it in then pack it out!!!
mattyj 01-04-2010, 08:40 AM I know my group packed out our trash etc, always do. So did the other groups of crawlers around us.
You sure it was a rock crawling crowd that left crap out there? I found generally we are more responsible than the quad/old 2 stroke dirt bike crowd.
We use the area more frequently and and therefor are more respectful.
Just saying.....
ssic off road shop 01-04-2010, 09:09 AM I understand your disappointment, although I think you have posted this in the wrong forum. IMOA I think these people, more than any would be the first to pick up after someone else before leaving anthing behind. Unless you are aware of the person you are calling out is in fact on this site.
I'm sure you picked up the mess you are speaking of and a strong hand shake and a thank you goes ou to you for it. Keep it open so I can still use it also.
mtrent3450 01-04-2010, 10:26 AM It seems to me that after the busy weekends when there are alot of dirt bikes/ quads is when there is alot more trash left around. I was there late on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and picked up alot of trash. I wish people would get the hint and cleanup after themselves.
Crash440 01-04-2010, 04:04 PM we left at 9am yesterday but our group didn't have a lot of trash around that I saw. we even packed out my dogs poop ;)
if you know where they were camped maybe they just need some education ;)
Jeff Knoll 01-04-2010, 08:30 PM I felt the same way after Thanksgiving. The next weekend was a bummer.
We are going to have to do a cleanup the week before KOH just so the place looks good.
I challenge everyone to spend one hour a day every day of KOH picking up trash. I will be slamed but still make time every morning to go for a walk with a trash bag. Who wants to watch the sunrise on means dry lake with me?
jeff
lok'd chic 01-05-2010, 12:57 PM We always leave our campsite cleaner than when we arrive. A great thing to do is give the kids trash bags and a little $$ incentive to pick up any trash on the ground. Keeps them busy while we load up and helps in the clean-up.
TheTonka 01-05-2010, 01:00 PM We carried home a large garbage bag full of other people's trash.

I'm NOT a morning person, but I'll do it with ya Jeff :D. If I can put down my coffee for a ride in Dave's new rig I can do something more important each time I set it down.....yes my coffee will come with me at sunrise   and so will the dog ;)
Jeff Knoll 01-05-2010, 04:32 PM Perfect dog walking time. Last year that noise you heard sub sunrise was me walking camp with a trash bag. Its about the most enjoyable time of the event. Quiet, and hopefully clear and still.:D

Some A-hole left his dogs sh!t pile and I got to be the lucky one who ran over it....and clean it off the entire side of my truck and me. One time I missed my doors:laughing:
Jeff Knoll 01-05-2010, 07:15 PM Try running it over on a CR500:mad3:
Jeepndel 01-05-2010, 08:11 PM Wait a minute -- I'm like all stoked about making my first KOH trip and you guys are talking about sunrise and crack of dawn stuff?/ Sup with that?
I'm more like 9:30am coffee and light snacks; 11:30am brunch and full on wake up. Right? Did I miss something?

Buckon37s 01-05-2010, 08:25 PM I'm 99% sure that all the trash from that weekend was from the dirt bike and quad crowd. I noticed it around the last day I was there at the south end of the lake bed on the way out with Matt.
I would not be surprised at all if after KOH the lakebed is cleaner even with the amount of people that will be there. I think it goes to the religion of the whole thing. To wheelers the Hammers is Mecca. To a quad rider, its ok. We don't leave dog shit and Beer cans in Mecca.
illwil 01-05-2010, 09:03 PM we camped before the bridge, and we cleaned up the trash that was there before us too, and ran a magnet thru our fire pit. not to mention the cleanup i did on resolution, holy shit, that short trail was more littered than any other long trail we did all weekend. only thing i can figure is that its close for all the hood rats to walk to???
easyspops 01-05-2010, 09:10 PM Some people just don't get it, probably never will. "They" think the rest of will continue picking up after them. I did last year, mostly beer cans as I was leaving KOH. What is it about flatbillers in jacked up Chevy trucks, two dudes riding in the back throwing out empties on the way out on Boone RD? Absolutely moronic.
My nearly 3 year old grandson, Keegan says about trash, "they don't listen", it's for sure "they" dont hear.

:mad3: I just think its beyond rude to bring a dog then NOT pick up the shit and make everyone else step over it, in it or drive in it. each time we saw her shit it was bagged and tossed to the trailer for bagging with the rest of the trash when we left. Maybe it's my Rubicon 'training' in me? ;) lol
Try running it over on a CR500:
 aw yuck  I know at KOH last year my dog took 3 shits at the starting line :emb: :shaking: I had 2 kleenex on me, she hadn't shit for 6 days?????? i wasn't expecting it. some very nice man gave me the plastic off his magazine he bought and I used the kleenex I had for the last 2 dumps, then she spent the rest of the day at the trailer lol.
Wait a minute -- I'm like all stoked about making my first KOH trip and you guys are talking about sunrise and crack of dawn stuff?/ Sup with that?

maybe I'll go on a trash run with you Del lol. NYE they took my coffee out of my hand and I went for the run in Daves new race buggy in my jammies and slippers without even drinking 1/2 of my coffee.......but with that rig I didn't need the coffee lol WOW a fast ride that like that is mucho better than coffee :flipoff2:
I did notice the trails had some litter on them, not much as I saw the last time I was there but still sad. with my bad back I spent 4yrs away from the Rubicon and when I back for the Cantina 09 it was CLEAN, I couldn't believe it. that is now the cleanest trail I have ever seen. I saw one tail light and that was it!!!! :bounce: to me it proves hard work EDUCATING people pays off ;)
maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to take pics of these camps while they are occupied and after they leave and the amount of trash they leave behind education with some embarrassment and 'calling out' can't hurt :D
TheTonka 01-06-2010, 09:04 AM Maybe we need to do more about educating people and encouraging them to do the right thing instead of just bitching about it. Is there some way we can get permission to put up signs and maybe see if we can get donations to provide trash bags and maybe a drop off location for trash. I am too busy to spearhead something like this, but since the lakebed is only about 1.5 hour drive from my house without my hauler I would be more than willing to drive up now and then and haul off a load of trash in the bed of my truck. I drive by the Lamb Canyon Landfill on the way to and from the Valley anyway.

With the exposure of the PBB and pictures of rigs including license plates we might get some results. Don't know the legality of posting license plates though.

littering IS against the law ;) the more proof the better IMO
Jeff Knoll 01-06-2010, 12:54 PM I love going to disneyland with Angie, she see's people drop trash she runs over making a scene and says" Oh here let me help you... You just dropped this!" The look on their face is priceless, beats any ride in the park.
Do that at KOH, and you will have a smile all week. Can you imagine what you could do at the big trails with a bullhorn. Hey Fawker pick up the beer can.... hey everyone that guy just shit on your trail, and does not respect any of us. Insert mob scene here.:D
i'm pretty tierd of the litter.

good for Angie
I saw someone littering last week on our way to dinner but I couldn't get a pic of their plate in time before we passed them :mad3: I would have NO prob posting plate #'s of people that stupid to leave their garbage for others to pick up.
I was disappointed the last day of KOH last year to see people dumping their tanks on the lake bed, BIG name people too :( one guy just gave me a "I dare you to say anything to me look" when I gave him a  look that he was actually doing that :shaking:

I sometimes will drain my freshwater when I am leaving the lakebed and twice I have had people stop me. Once they realized it was only freshwater they were cool. But I only drain freshwater so I dont have to haul it home. I have seen people drain grey water. :shaking: That isnt cool.

BIG name people you say?? Name them hypocrite.
Joker2669 01-09-2010, 09:11 PM Seriously guys, if you have enough room to bring your shit in with you, you have enough room to leave with it or dispose of it properly if you don't want to haul it. Plain and simple.
Crash440 01-10-2010, 04:30 AM BIG name people you say?? Name them hypocrite.
at this point no. 1, I don't really remember for sure the name and 2, it's been a year and they could easily say I am lying so whats the point. The part that got me was the they knew it was wrong by the look he gave me, yes I should have said something at the time but I was in more pain that I thought possible for 5 days, I only wanted to get the fawk home and put that week behind me.
Jeepndel 01-10-2010, 09:28 AM One of the things we learned when starting the volunteer Trail Patrol in the Friends of the Rubicon (8 years ago), was to be cautious of how we reported incidents or violations. Cops (fed and state) will only cite someone if someone else points a finger and says "I saw him do it." In other words, you have to see the cluprit throw the junk out.
Fed cops can cite for unwitnessed littering or damage; sheriff deputies have to witness it. Thus, the volunteer trail patrol idea is important, where we can EDUCATE our own and TALK to our own folks when it happens but more importantly BEFORE it happens.
We don't encourage slamming folks (or posting pics) on websites and such without a witness statement (proof positive, with driver ID). In other words, we did not encourage posting Joe's JK was seen littering near Walmart.....WHO was driving? Was it Joe for sure?
On the other hand, a rig WAY off the obvious trail, with no question as to where the trail is, then yea, a pic posted in public brings a lot of smack down on the driver -- with the license plate clearly showing.
Finally, if a case might go to court (as in, a ticket), it's best not to have a bunch of pics and postings in public forums as it might affect the case the wrong way).
So my solution to this -- volunteer trail patrol, educational programs, in all our popular areas, with good signage and plenty of trash cans.

TheTonka 01-10-2010, 12:20 PM I'd volunteer to help when I can.

For some reason, I don't believe you. If they were "Big name" people you would remember who they were. And if they were dumping shit water on the lake bed they should be named.

say what you want, I don't lie. there were alot of 'big name's out there and it was a year ago. deal with it.
