I go that way too but I go from Lancaster.

The 138 is always crowded and slow so I stay off it.

I take Ave J east to 240th st, make a right/ south. 240th to El Mirage rd, left/east then make a right on Sheep Creek Rd then left on Palmdale Rd/18.

That route saves me a lot of time.

Drove over to the Yucca valley walmart today and I can certainly tell it's coming soon. Saw lots of rigs on trailers and I saw the Maxxis truck in the parking lot.

I've seen hundreds of rigs drive by my house (I live above rabbit lake bed, the one 18 runs through the middle of). Glad I won't be battling for a camp site out there. I'm just headin out wednesday, thursday, and friday for the day.

I live in Hesperia 45min from johnson valley...Our city just sent us a message that states...We are gonna get 2 to 4 in of SNOW on wednesday...the Cajon pas WILL be CLOSED...hesperia and johnson valley are about the same elevation..and same distance from big bear mountains...

So can we drive up to the trails where the race is? Also where do you guys think the good spots for viewing the race on friday will be? I'm bringing my dad and daughter to check it out.

DO NO DRIVE ON THE COURSE. The course is closed to any vehicles that are not racing. Honestly stay near the main camp for the first hour or so. Then head out east to some of the trails. Just follow the crowd... we know where to go ;)

I checked and my wife doesent know the difference between ft and in....Its 2 to 4 in of snow :homer:

you really dont need to drive far to watch, I was just saying with the amount of people coming out this year, its going to be tough to keep people OFF the course. This is like Baja 1000 you can be where ever.... at your own risk.

I was there on Sunday afternoon and the pics I saw from Saturday sometime and what it looked like Sunday where night and day.
The torrential rain across the high desert was spotty judging by the drive in.

I came up the 14 to the 138 across to Victimville and down bear valley road.
The 138 had water on the lanes in multiple places.
The intersection of 138 and 395 east bound on 138 had 1 open lane due to flooding with Caltrans actively working on lane repair.
Coming out of Lucerene and approaching Bessimer the thing I noticed that spoke of rain was a lake off to the Northeast, I believe it is soggy lake. I was thinking, neat I drive a 2 wheel drive Chebby and I get to stick it in means mud OH JOY, however arriving on means it was dry in most places and I had no issues.

I was able to tow in at 30 MPH on boone slowing for the two concrete swells to allow for water crossings. Note to SELF: SLOW DOWN for 2nd crossing as right side of concrete dirt interface inbound to means has a 18 in deep hole and bottom of concrete swell has packed with damp sand that is rough.

Continuing on boone was no issue until the last turn that lines you up for the concrete bridge. This area has seen pockets of significant erosion and I had to drop to 4 mph to ensure trailer was attached by the time I hit the lakebed. From the turn on in I cruised in the 5mph range as there are people camping out up and down the road already. Really bad form to blast by someones camp site at 30 mph:)

At no time on the lake bed was I concerned with getting stuck, although I did no turn right to the lower section but went up left to the high ground :)

When the snow comes it will suck if towing in a 2 wheel drive Chebby until its gone, but unless it is really deep no worries for everyone else.

That's EdisonSteve's wife Lisa, and she drives that rig all the time - and she's good at it too!!! :D And yes, she's a fine lookin' woman to boot.

My wife doesn't like to drive my Jimmy. She says she can't see out well enough while on the trail. She wants a Scout. I think she will want to wheel our rig once I get the darn fiberglass baja fenders off of it. It's like the oposite of pinching the frontend....

Thanks for the great shots. We drove all the way from South Carolina to get our chance at Backdoor.
The German team seemed to be having overheating problems. We offered to tow them back to camp but they said thay had it under control.

Im running the same setup. They are grade 8 bolts and its nice to know that I can replace my windshield without cutting into my cage.

Smurf, another good point. I hadn't thought of that. I street drive my truck a lot. It doesn't look like your Sami sees a lot of street use.

Beef, we missed yer ass at KOH. We ran Tack, Chocolate Thunder, 3/4 of Outerlimits (Stuck Jeeps in front of us), Wrecking Ball and Claw. Were you able to get any trail time?

unfortunately, no, we were checkpoint 1,3, and 10, or something like that. we were out from 6-530 and i didn't feel much like running a trail after that. i did manage to fool around on the rocks around the pits though.
i was sort of sick and didn't want to spend another freezing night in my tent, so i headed home. i know, pussay move, but i was glad the next morning to wake up full on sick at home then in the desert.

Jeepman took a few shots at the famous waterfall Backdoor and was denied access. No one was hurt. (until his wife gets a hold of him.) :smokin: It was a gentle back flip.. sorta'. Cage held up great, just some rock rash.

I was next in line right behind the flop. I looked away for just a second and WHOA, there it went.:eek: We turned around while you guys did the recovery (there were people fawking everywhere!) and ran Chocolate Thunder, came back the next night and got denied as well!
