: Taurus fan install

I have read lots of installation information on these fans but I may have missed something important. can someone fill me in?

I have the wiring done, I have the correct fan (90 - 95 taurus 3.8L) but it does not clear the water pump pully (4.0L). The fan is 4.5-5" thick and I only have room for about 4" max.

what have I missed?

anyone?

Maybe its different for YJs, but with CJ7s, the clearence problem is exactly why I went with v6 contour fans, lower profile and air flow almost as much air as the Taurus fans. The air shroud for the Contour fans sits flush and fits in the space provided with plenty of room between the water pump pully as well as the alternator.

Provided that your starting with stock radiator and a 4.2/4.0 I believe your going to have to move the motor back or the radiator forward if you want to use a Taurus fan.

This problem is why I went and got a fan off of a volvo. It is the same as a Taurus fan, but isn't made into the shroud. It can be taken off the shroud by just removing a few screws. It has the wiring and relays with them too.

Then I made my own shroud that was pretty flat and move the motor (thickest part of the fan) away from the water pump / crank. It works great and only cost me $23 at the junk yard. I don't have any pics here at work. I will try to remember to post some later.

My taurus fan I had to turn side ways to make it fit.

Not really a given year, but it needs to be a V6 Ford Contour. SVT Contour V6s will work as well but a whole lot harder to find. Used, I paid $38 at a Pick-n-Pull. They are affordable brand new as well. One of the cool things about the Contour fans, is that the shroud fits with very little trimming!

I used two 35 amp fan relays with adjustable rheostat/ thermostats. I have them coming on sequentially ie one at 190 degrees and the second fan at 205.

I paid $38 for the fans, $32 per fan controller which came with wiring, so all I had to do was buy some plastic conduit and zip ties to make it look pretty. Grand total was a little over $105 with tax. I did this last summer (2009).

If you get the relays with it, it is very simple to install. Ground 1 wire and it turns on the low speed, ground the other and it turns on the high speed.
