Ok, i got a dana 70 that measures 65 inches wide. I didn't have time to pull the shafts b/c the junkyard owner was closing down and about to let the dogs loose. So i just pulled it and went, i pulled the shafts today and counted 23 splines!!! I thought that Dana 70's out of a f350 had 35 splines, well it measure 1.5 inch diameter...so i am really confused am i counting wrong?? I know my eyes weren't decieving me the Dia. measure 1.5 inches...but i counted 23 splines, is the dana 70 junk? Or is it still as strong as a 35 spline 1.5 inch shaft...should i run this??

Older D70's are indeed 23 spline. they went to 35 spline around 1976.....

Check the conditon of the splines, if they show no sign of twisting then run 'em and forget 'em.

If you're going to detroit it then go 35 and pull the axles out of a late '70s rear end.

that tbi 350 aand 38.5 tsl's will break it easier than a welded rear dana 30 behind a 800 hp big block w/ 44's
