: CJ Brakes - fitting measurements

I’m starting to buy stuff to put hydroboost into my ’79 CJ7. I’m a gather the parts then do the deed kinda guy, as this is my DD.

So here’s what I need to know:

What size tubing are the hard lines in a stock CJ (power) brake setup?

OR

What size are the fittings that connect those hard lines to the master cylinder?

I’m trying to get either new fittings for the existing lines or adapters from the stock CJ fittings to the new Caddy MC.

I know I could measure or ask the folks at NAPA, but I’m away from most of my tools right now and the closest NAPA is 50+ miles away.:( The only folks here are AutoZone and don’t even have a parts catalog in the store! If it isn’t in their computer lookup it doesn’t exist.

Thanks!

Thanks for the line size, and the link is a good one, just no part #s anymore.

Anyone know who I can call to get the fitting info? I've called 4wd hardware, quadratec, stainless steel brakes, I guess Willwood, maybe?

Anyone have a FSM handy? Would that show it, mebbe?

Here's the HydoBoost installation guide I wrote for the VANCO kit.
Maybe it will help ya a little with your install. :p

Thanks for the link, Jaffer. Been there, have it printed out and ready to go for the install. Nothing beats pics of stuff done right.

As far as the info that I was asking for, I found someone with a micrometer and measured. I figure I'll post what I found here for posterity. Mebbe it'll help out someone searching for it in the future.

These measurements came out of my 79 CJ7 with a CJ power brake system. I say it that way because after further review, it appears the power system was swapped in.

The Hard lines to the master cylinder are 1/4" OD. (252/1000", but who's counting?) ;)

The front fitting is 9/16"
The rear fitting is 1/2"

Incidentally these are the same size/orientation as the fittings for the 76 Cadi Fleetwood MC I bought, so the whole finding fittings deal ended up a tailchase. At least I learned something.

Tomorrow I'm having the hydraulic lines made, Tuesday this stuff should be in.
