In my last build I used a chevy 44 and 14 bolt on a scout that had 4" springs with 36" tires,It turned out a little big!!
So now the time comes where I sold the scout and tires and kept the axles with hi steer knuckles and all the stuff to bolt it into any scout II.
OK What im wanting to do is take my 1980 Traveler and go slightly big.It got rear ended on monday and tweaked the rear spring and shackle real good.
It has a 4" triangle spring lift all around!
I want it to run the 44 & 14 bolt and H1 or H2 wheels and tires.
Question
1. will the backspace work with the hi steer arms?
2.I'm gonna run fact. springs front and rear extended shackle rear and maybe a RS Conv.
3. My main concern is that the wheels clear the steering I prefer H1 but H2 doesnt look so bad,Im looking for a narrow track full width set up on a 1980 traveler.
4.I would like all opinions on what anyone else would run. I need this scout to be driveable to any spot and not be a daily driver just a wheeler that can drive on the street! & handle decent!!
Thanks

h1's on a full size srw axle set in pretty narrow.
If you don't have HS arms that are offset to clear h1 rims they won't clear without recentering. I don't know why there would be any reason h2's wouldn't clear.

This set up works good. I used Hutchens wheels. I did not like the Dana 20 727tf combo it was to high geared.:( Do you know if it has the Dana 300 in it?

x2 on the d20 727 being too high. I had the 304-d20-727-4.10 with 33's and low wasn't really low enough.

Gear the axles for the tires. If your hanging on the freeway 4.10's for 33's, go down from there for bigger tires. Course on a D44 the pinion gets PRETTY small.

Doubler or lower gets in the t-case (I have a 4:1 D300 I'd probably be willing to sell, but its for a manual, and it won't be cheap, but fair).

H1 rims on stock Chevy 3/4Tons makes is about equal to a 63" wider axle with standard BS (4") rims. So 3" wider than stock. Looks pretty good for no effort IMO. But you will need different arms. Someone made them, and you could probably sell your current arms for similar costs. You'd probably need new TR and DL (sell them with your arms). Don't know if you have to cut the stock TR arm off the knuckles though... I know a D60 hits without spacers....

Wheel spacers might work depending on how far your current arms bend in.

Look here and on JustIH website for the plans on how to make high steer arms to clear Hummer wheels. I posted it up when I built them. They are also the same length as stock Scout II knuckle so when you drive it, it still feels like a Scout II.
