: 1976 Scout II Questions.

Hey all, new to the scout thing so I have some questions.
I'm looking at picking up a 1976 Scout II with a 304, and Auto tranny, 44's front and rear. Body is rough, but not a total loss, and the seller has all kinds of parts.

He's asking 250 bucks.
I think it's a good deal.
Ultimately I will be using it as a plow if it runs well, and a beater in the summer for light trail duty.

I could always use the 44 rear in my Jeep if the Scout was a total HEEP, and I'm sure the front would be worth something to someone.
Needs too many mods to the tubes, or the Jeep to be worth using.

My real concerns are with the Motor.
Are parts easy to find?
What type of carbs, and ignition components can be swapped on if needed.
Any typical upgrades to this particular motor?
I have no clue.
I've been trapped in Jeepville for too long.
Also what tranny, and tranfer case would this typically have.

If you guys have any useful links to IH or Scout II sites, or boards, I'd appreciate them.
I'd probably be able to get a lot of answers to the many more questions, I'm sure I will have.

Thanks in advance for any help, or advice.

MJ

Anything that runs for 250 is a good deal, 250 for a Scout is a better deal.

If you are going to use Scout parts on your Heep, then save this deal for another Scout guy. BTW you own a Scout now, better learn how to fab, rig, and put shit together with duct tape, chewing guy and tin foil.

Yes you can find parts, ignition options are limited, but you can add a MSD or Pertronix unit. Headers, cam, etc. all available

Thanks for the reply, decided to pass on the Scout....for now.(If I had the room I'd buy it and store it.)
Bought a Scrambler to beat on instead.
At least i know how to keep one of those running.

Thanks again.

Scouts and IH rigs in general seem scarce up in these parts...It would be nice to wheel one.
Someday.
