This is my logic, im hoping it will work. Right now i have a 23 spline dana 70. I am doing a 1 ton swap onto my scout, and a complete Drivetrain makeover...so i wanna do it right!
The Dana 70 came out of a flatbed F-350 early 70's, i don't know if this is a C&C, or SRW, or DRW ( the junkyard, pulls the wheels)?? It measures out to 65 inches in width.
If i find the exact same Dana 70, but from a late 70's f-350 and 35 spline and off of a flat bed, can i just take out the side gears and shafts and run those 35 spline shafts in my axle?? The 23 spline shafts that i have right now measure to 1.5 inch diameter, so the axle shaft should fit fine in the spindle.
List of parts to my logic:
35 spline side gears
35 spline axle shafts that match the length.
to convert a 65inch 23 spline dana 70 to a 65inch 35 spline Dana 70
im not going to put a detroit in it, im just going to weld it...so this should all work, right???
HELP!

You are correct. Here is another thought, run the 23 spline axles. I know a few people that are running the 23 spline jobs. I would then get the parts to do the swap later.

The shafts are dirt cheap at this junkyard i go to....absolutely dirt cheap, entire axles are only $81 dollars there...front or rear, even a front 60:eek: So the shafts are dirt cheap, and if i find em' then im just gonna run em before i put the axle in, if not then im running 23 splines.
Thanks

Why not just buy another complete D70 thats a 35 spline job?
add your perches and shock mounts and be done with it

thats another $81 bucks..OR i can get the side gears and shafts out of another one for like $20 bones. And just slide em' in and then weld and then im done

Or you can install the 35 spline 70 and sell the 23 spline one. Seems easy to me.

I think people would rather look for OR buy a 35 spline 70, thats what i wanted to do...but i only had 30 mins to pull that and there were no wheels on it...so i just decided to pull it. I don't think people will wanna buy a 23 spline 70
