alright, me and my buddy have decided that we are going to make the trek from colorado to the hammers this year for KOH. Problem is, neither of us have ever been there before and we really dont know much about the place. i talked to a friend and i told him we were going to stay in a tent and he just started laughing and said it was going to suck in a tent for 7 days in the wind. i figure if we try and find a spot closer to the mountains somewhere we should be fine. my questions are as follows.

1. Any good spots for camping where we wont get blown away?

2. where is going to be the closest gas station/super market? we are just going to buy food when we are down there instead of hauling everything.

3. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN 2 OPEN SEATS IN THEIR RIGS FOR MY BUDDY AN ME SO WE CAN WHEEL???!?! we can pitch gas and beers

4. where is the best place to watch from? i would assume some where high or in a valley but watching videos from last year the valleys look crowded.

5. Fires? i assume fires are legal to have out there? i also assume there is no trees so i need to bring firewood?

6. is there a good map i can download of the area? i would like to get a bit familiar with the area before we just go driving around.

7. i am driving my stock double cab tacoma out, am i going to have a tough time getting it around the lake bed?

sorry if these all seem like dumb questions, i just want to know what i am getting into before i am there. i know it will be a blast. thanks everyone in advance!

PM me and I will give you my cell number. We can meet up. I will be there with a good group of layed back guys. Tent camping will suck. Your tacoma is fine. Wood needs to be brought in but you can have a fire pretty much anywhere. If you are a good guy we may have a few seats for you depending on what happens. You can get close enough with your truck to hike the rest of the way to the good viewing areas.

I would rather sleep in the truck then in a tent out there. It is really cold sometimes, and as you heard sometimes super windy as in you won't be happy in a tent. Yes you can camp close to the hills but that's no gaurantee. Stop and get food in CA before you get out to the lakebed, you won't want to leave and drive into town even though its not too far. Camp fires are legal.
