Complete newbie here. I have searched but haven't found anything definitive on this so I will ask here and hopefully not offend anyone.

I am buying a TJ with a waggy 44 up front with 6-lug hubs/wheels. Rear is a TJ D44 built with chromo shafts, 4.56 and Detroit, and has 5x4.5 hubs and wheels.

Pvs owner has wheel adaptors for the back but no longer runs them; they add about 4" total width in back. Just running different bolt pattern front and rear now.

I would like to run matched wheels if possible, what are my options for getting to 6-lug in the back? I'm a noob, but is it possible to purchase new shafts for the rear which are drilled for 6-lug, and then drill my drums to accept the bolt pattern? Sounds simple enough but I'm not sure if it is realistic.

Thanks.

Here is a link to ebay with adapters, they only offset the wheels 1.75 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WHEEL-ADAPTER-SPACER-KIT-5x4-5-TO-6x5-5_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5638175766QQitemZ3703 08241254QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccess ories
Also try some venders on here. I am sure you can find them with only a couple inches of offset. Trying to drill rotors etc. is gonna be expensive.

I'm running a similar set up for my jeep. The 8.8 out back has spacers to change the 5x4.5 pattern to 5x5.5 (and get widths closer) and the front J10 axle has 79 Bronco knuckles out to match that same 5x5.5

yes it is possible to get 6 lug shafts and redrill your drums to work on the 6 lug. I did it and it works just fine. Just get some custom alloy shafts made for the 6 lug and drill it out on a drill press.

I was in the same boat. Waggy front and 8.8 rear. I contacted Mountain off road enterprises. The sold me adapters that converted from 5 on 4-1/2 to 6 on 5-1/2 the spacers were around 400 bucks. each spacer adds 2" per side. they have been installed 4 years now with zero issues.

I used these ebay adapters on my ford 8.8 in the rear to match my waggy six lug front. I also have inch and 1/2 spacers on the front. This setup has been holding up well for over a year now on 37's.

$200.00 for 4 wheel adapters is probably going to be the cheapest fix. If you do this I would be happy to buy one of the extra ones from you. I sold my extras and wish I still had one for a spare.

Good luck,
Chuck
