I'm rebuilding my axles on my 83 fj60 and decided to replace the shocks. Any recommendations?
My cruiser is stock height, I rarely off-road but I don't like the unwieldy ride with my present shocks (look to be OEM).
I'm trying to find a good deal on Rancho RS9000s (vs the pricier 9000x), but may settle for rs5000s since I don't off-road much.
Are there better brands than Rancho I should be looking at?
I'd like to spend < 120$ for all 4.
Anyone got some they want to unload?
Front: rancho rs9158, rear: rs9118

PM hybrid He's got a pair of 9118's.. maybe he'll sell them separately from the fronts he has (won't work on a FJ)
I need 9010's or 9112's, but he posted in my "wanted" post

I've got (2) Rancho 5118 shocks. 14” x 22 ¼ “ that I used in the back of my FJ40 landcruiser. They have good resistance both directions. Have some marks from a few years of use (no dents though).
$15 pair (comes with 3 new red shock boots) Plus shipping.
(9118 and 5118 should be the same shock...except for the adjustable part)

I haven't had good luck with Rancho 5000's, and 9000's are too stiff. I am running DT3000's and so far they have been working great. I am thinking about getting their 9 ways, if I do I will post my thoughts.

You do realize 9000's are adjustable?? a 9000 on 3 is equivalent to a 5000.
A rancho 9000 on 1 is pretty darn soft, but to each his own...

The 9000' are/were 5 way adjustables and I found myself always being on the lowest 1 or 2 settings, not worth it to me. I have heard that Rancho is coming out with a 9 way, possibly it is already out.

I run the 9000s on my 60. Mine are the 5 way adjustable ones. I like them. I run them on 1 in the front and 2 in the rear on the trail and 5 all the way around on the highway. No rolly polly wagon on the highway this way. The 5000s are way too stiff in my opinion for general use on a 60. I'm intrigued by my friend's new 9 ways made by Pro Comp. They are fairly spendy. They run inverted with the adjusters being tucked out of the way. I think they look like a quality unit but it will be awhile before we get them on the road for a test drive.

Have been looking into the Rancho or the Air Lift product to give myself a little extra umph in the rear for towing a heavy trailer. She currently sags to about 4-5 inches of clearance with trailer attached and that's just not safe when I've got 5 or 6 boys in the beast with me. Any opinions, thoughts, comments? It's for a '94 FZJ-80, 99k miles, original stock suspension. Doesn't see any offroad, but plenty of skiing (even from SoCal!).

The Rancho 9000 are with 9 way adjustors are out. I picked up a pair of 9012's a couple weeks ago from 4wheel parts wharehouse. They are supposed to be triple tube instead of the double tube design used in the 5 way adjustable's. Have'nt had them out wheeling yet to comment on them. They are supposed to have better resistance both ways....
